![]() Hi again Fifth_Horseman. I managed to get WoX to work on DosBox 0.70, but I haven't actually gotten down to playing it yet.
A few things first... surprisingly, music etc were ok. However, I can't seem to get the Darkside intro to work. The screen freezes after it zooms in on Dragon Pharoah's spaceship, but the music carries on. Hitting Esc doesn't help, so I have to Ctrl-F9 to kill DosBox. Also, the Clouds of Xeen intro stops at Crodo's speech. Just after he introduces himself, his voice is cut off and the screen just doesn't progress. Music continues though. For this one, I can hit Esc to enter the game. Another thing is... I copied my old game saves over into the WoX directory. They were saved with my original WoX CDs and are either XEENxx.WOX or DARKxx.WOX, where "xx" is a number. However, when I fire up the game in DosBox and try to load a game, it tells me that there aren't any saves. How do I get WoX to recognise my transferred saves? Thanks, Xeenslayer |

![]() Sorry to double-post, but I've got another question... do I have to install the game through install.exe or can I just run it straight off like that?

![]() If you experience the sort of sound issues you described, that means something is wrong with the sound setup.
Running Install is recommended in that case - please make sure you configure the game to use Sound Blaster 16, IRQ 7, DMA 1, Adress 220 h. If no option for Sound Blaster 16 is present, use Sound Blaster Pro 2 (or "plain" Pro) instead. Quote:

![]() Hi again, and thanks for the quick reply. I figured out that renaming the saves to .SAV does the trick, and the game saves run perfectly fine. Also, installing with SB Pro instead of SB resolves the intro issues. Thanks.
Now, technicalities aside... onto the game itself. I have cleared the whole of Clouds and almost all of Darkside, yet I'm still only at level 62 max. I don't have enough money to continue training (at Kalindra's Castle), so I'm stuck at Dragon Pharaoh's pyramid, with all those powerful dragons to fight. I've read over here that keeping your gold in the bank produces interest?... I never knew that, so how does it work? Do gems yield interest too, because I'm really running short of them and have no means of getting more. |

![]() What's your party composition ?
Level 62 is quite high considering that you can also gain 15 temporary levels from the shrine in the desert on darkside. Besides the wells which grant temporary HP, SP and other stat increases especially temporarily raised luck and resistance against the element the dragons are attacking with are important. It's also important to cast protection from those elements after day of protection. The standard tactic if it gets too hard somewhere is exploring other areas first, like the dragon and vulcano cave on the cloud side which can only be accessed by walking across the lava. To earn gold and gems you can visit the mines on darkside and dig for gems. You can use save and reload to improve what you get. When they are all empty pay 250,000 GP to the "God of Minerals" (Cave entrance C2 6/9) for refilling them. For the emeralds and other kind of stones found have the blacksmith make an armor, enforce to get the most valuable one by reloading. If you have gained a bunch of plate armors this way you can sell them, a character with merchant skill should get far more than 100,000 for each of them. This can be repeated endlessly if desired. |

![]() Hi kmonster. My party is the default party that the game starts off with (paladin, knight, ranger, robber, cleric, sorceror). I have cleared all of clouds, which also includes all the caves and lairs. There is one, however, which I don't think I cleared. It's the one with the screamers, which I found really hard to beat. I killed a lot of them but I don't remember clearing the dungeon.
I will try clearing out the Great Pyramid (whatever it's called, I forgot) once more after getting the +2500HP bonus from the fountain at the lava-area. But even so, it's quite troublesome going around getting all the bonuses and going back to the pyramid to fight, isn't it? Also, I've read of people easily hitting level 250... 62 really looks puny in comparison. I could try selling diamond plate armour to raise funds for training, but... You haven't told me how I could get more gems. Casting spells costs a lot of gems, and making ruby/emerald/sapphire/diamond equipment requires a lot of gems too. IIRC creating a diamond armour requires 10000 gems, and I definitely don't have so much. |

![]() You get the gems the same way you get ruby/emerald/sapphire/diamond stones required for the armors. At the best locations in the mines you can 5 stones but you can also get you get about 1000 gems instead. To enforce getting more gems you can reload everytime you get 1 or 5 stones until you get enough gems instead.
It's troublesome having to buff up your party, but you only have to do it once a day. If you choose the buffing order (I'd start at 5 am at the shrine in the desert which grants +15 levels) and use spells like Teleport and Lloyd's beacon wisely you'll have more than 20 hours totally buffed up to explore the pyramids. That's a lot considering that an indoor action takes only 1 minute. (Don't push space for drinking from a well, else time will pass.) If you get low on HP/SP just set a beacon, use the other beacon to refresh at a well which grants extra HP or SP and use a beacon spell back in. You don't have to reach level 250 right now, you'll have to do a lot of other quests in WoX which will grant a lot of gold and XP. |

![]() Thanks Kmonster. Using Lloyd's Beacon many times in the Great Pyramid helped me buff up my party enough times to defeat the dragons in level 1. I managed to reach Dragon Pharoah, and then went on to kill Alamar. It's a pity I forgot to take a screenshot of my score though, darn it. =( The game automatically saved and I now have no way of killing Alamar again, pah.
Anyway, I've just activated the machines in the four corners of Clouds, and also awakened the four guardians in Darkside. What do I do next? Another thing is, I see a chest at each of the four elemental planes (when I go to awaken the guardians) but there's apparently no way of opening them?... How do I pick the chests and access whatever's inside (presumably great treasures)? Btw, I realised that last time, I solved the puzzle at the Great Pyramid level 1, but forgot to claim the treasure... -_-" I did that now and together with the Pitchfork chest puzzle in Castleview, I got like 3 million gold. I used some of it to train my characters up to level 65 - all of them. So far, my party is pretty much invincible wherever I go... makes me wonder if it's necessary to get to level 200+ in this game? |

![]() It's really not neccessary to reach level 200+ in the game. If you feel invincible you can prove this by defeating the megadragon.
Before you can open a chest in an elemental plane you have to succeed with the test there. In castle Alamar you should have found a key to the dragon tower on the clouds side, it might be worth a visit. |
