It's really not neccessary to reach level 200+ in the game. If you feel invincible you can prove this by defeating the megadragon.
Before you can open a chest in an elemental plane you have to succeed with the test there.
In castle Alamar you should have found a key to the dragon tower on the clouds side, it might be worth a visit.
