Yeah well they tend to crash often, they are very sensitive to dust and shocks. I owned a "real" C64 once (crashed too), but now its (I got to admit that) a C64 II, which offers exactly the same functions, but not that nice look and a worse SID, with reduced sound quality. Nevertheless it works great scince 1982. Also its kind of difficult to get an "original" C64 in good condition. Mostly on eBay, but then they send it in dusty package and throw it in a mail box - great! Remember what I said about dust and shocks...

Did you do stuff in BASIC btw?

Not really, I was six years old at the time, I could only load games. Well, at least I grasped the BASICS of ASCII graphics before I knew what it was - I always tried to draw by typing characters. It was fun between two gaming sessions, I still have the 5.2" disks lying around.

I love the idea, that the C64 came with premade "graphics", ready to set with a single press on the keyboard. Fair enough for a card game or a basic platformer. To be honest, I don't practice enough to get very far. I don't really understand the "high-res" mode, but I got some books on that topic laying around...maybe someday I find the time. Are them 5.2"s empty or do they contain some ancient game jewels?
