Still using ancient Computers?
Hi there.
I'm interested if someone here still runs the games on the "original" hardware from that time. Or is anybody here restaurating /preserving ancient PCs? |
Well, I don't own a 486... But my computer now is nearing 10 years old and is still kicking.
That 2400$ (which was even a lot at the time) was well spent I'd say. :) |
I still have a couple but doubt they work. I have a few old Macs. An old C64. Might still have an ancient Tandy laptop, which was like putting a desktop with a tiny screen in your lap. Wish I still had an old IIgs. Emulators all the way for me.

Been there, done that, the motherboard eventually died a few months ago.
|
I would totally have one sitting around if my dad didn't just upgrade our one computer over and over. I am looking to buy a couple of old beasts from boot sales, in the end I will buy a lot if only to strip them to keep one running.

I have a 486 in my moms room picking up dust.
Probably still works like a charm. ^_^ |
Most of you seem to be younger than I am...
Coming back from the cellar... found some 386 and 286 (yes.. I am really *that* old. :palm: Most of them are in parts now...:mhh: Think I will put one system together and get some old games running on it over christmas. Even found a Soundblaster card (the first version) with a serial number of only 800 something. :max: |
Still got my very first 486DX2-66, upgraded to AMD X5-135 (similar to Intel 486DX4-100, the AMD CPU is also lying around still) and lastly to a Pentium 100 (which was way faster than the AMD one) processor somewhere in 1998. Soundblaster 16, 40 MB RAM and some unfamiliar Korean PCI graphics card after a change to a PCI Mainboard for the Pentium CPU, which caused some troubles with games in Dos and Windows 95 back then, due to Win95 having no exact drivers for it, neither Dos games nor Dos UniVBE driver supporting it.
Didn't use it in many years now, it's lying around in a cabinet together with a fitting older CRT monitor, though should be still working like a charm. |
Yep.
Has an original C64, and a Pentium3 700 MHZ, integrated graphic card (ca. equalls a 2MB graphic card), maximum capability of operation system Win98SE. But as even Abandona's start-page causes me trouble to load in, next week I'll get a new hardware. |
Well it looks like Abandonia is also encouraging the development of a new, stronger, better hardware, for all its being a comfy site for old Dos games :p
