May also be a malfunctioning heat sensor that reports a higher temperature than it really is -> automatic CPU throttling kicks in -> crash. For that there is no real solution, since it's an issue with an integral component of the motherboard.

Might also be a driver conflict of some sort. Had that once with my mouse... approx 30 minutes of functionality and then a sudden reset. Turned out the bundled driver was for a wrong model.
If it has been an issue of the drivers and not the hardware, I'd reccomend uninstalling all drivers and installing new up-to-date ones matched precisely to the parts your machine is using.
