Look on the motherboard. There should be a pair of pins labeled "clear CMOS" or "reset CMOS". Jumper them and start up the machine. After a minute or so, turn it off and unjumper the pins. This will reset your BIOS to defaults.[/b]
Maybe he still owns the manual and look the CMOS-reset jumper there and doesn't have to search the whole mainboard.

there uses to be the "save me plz i tried to clock my cpu and it doesnt work now" jumper on some motherboards which resets all the settings in bios to default. so take a look in to manual. or you can take the battery on mb out and wait few minutes or hours

So sort this topic up a bit:

Issue 1: Computer seems to boot, but nothing appears on the screen, not even the boot-dialouge.
Cause: Playing around with bus-speeds in the BIOS

Solution: Find the jumper to clear the CMOS/BIOS, or if that's missing, take out the battery for a full 24 hr and pray.

Aftermath: Hopefully the core/board/bus wasn't harmed from the high voltage/heat

-----------
Issue 2: Compy reset (before issue 1) at random
Cause: N/A

Solution: Overheating sugested. Open cabin, turn on power, see if the fan's are going and there is an open airflow from core -> out. Also chk core heatsinks if they are clean. MIGHT also be RAM-module issues.. symptoms like this can appear. Once it's up and running, get a diagnostics-tool and run a full scan of all hardware to locate possible problems.

Aftermath: Probably nothing.

It happend to me recently:
1)get a new video card
2)Get a new motherboard

Those are the only thing I know of to fix this...

May also be a malfunctioning heat sensor that reports a higher temperature than it really is -> automatic CPU throttling kicks in -> crash. For that there is no real solution, since it's an issue with an integral component of the motherboard.

Might also be a driver conflict of some sort. Had that once with my mouse... approx 30 minutes of functionality and then a sudden reset. Turned out the bundled driver was for a wrong model.
If it has been an issue of the drivers and not the hardware, I'd reccomend uninstalling all drivers and installing new up-to-date ones matched precisely to the parts your machine is using.
