I'm sure we all have those moments where you look at something and just think "wtf did they do it that way?" I had one this afternoon, when I was trying to pull apart an IBM server in a rack. Instead of using Phillips-head screws like most computer manufacturers, IBM use flathead screws. They have forever as far as I know. Trying to work with those things horizontally and not drop any into the floor cavity isn't fun at all. So yeah, I'd like to find the person who decided that IBM boxes would use flathead screws and ask what the hell they were thinking at the time.
If you could find the person responsible for something that just makes you go :crazy: and ask them what they were thinking at the time, who would you ask and what would you ask about? |

I'd LOVE to do a little inquisition on the guy that thought we all needed frying pans with a depression formed as stars and hearts so we can enjoy egg benedicte with cute shapes.
Never mind that the pan is useless for anything else, and probably hard as hell to clean... |

heh its probably some crazy reason like the engineers kept requesting that they change it to + head screws, but the 43 layers of management kept passing it up and down and having meetings and presentations about it for 20 years and never gave them the go ahead.
i always got the feeling IBM was a lot like the dilbert comics |
