Another big fan of MDK!
*Possible spoiler*
I didn't know what to think of the end music video?! Of what I can remember, it alternated between a rock band (Playing in what langauge I don't know), and glimpses of Kurt?

In an old issue of PC Gamer I believe it was (But don't quote me on that) the designer joked that MDK stood for 'Massive Dollops of Ketchup', but then he said it stood for the three main characters.
Anyway, I think I've got a problem that hasn't been mentioned here. I can't complete the training level because the last door you need to blast away with the mortar... and for some reason whenever I glide over to pick up the mortar, it doesn't appear in my inventory. Anybody know a cheat code to get the mortar or something?

ok, this thread is unreadable.
heres a summary:

Whatr does MDK mean?

The meaning was a great mystery when the game was fresh, that was just to make people talking about the game.
the most common is still murder death kill (maybe taken from "demolition man"),
but there a many other.

if you get error:
error opening MISC/mdkfont.FTI

open MDK.cfg and change the lines

cddata = c:\mdk
hddata = c:\mdk

both to the directory where you put mdk.

mdk.exe works, but mdkd3d.exe doesnt work
First, get the official mdkd3d.exe file from your favorite game site.

It should be exactly 671,232 bytes long.

Use your favorite hex editor to make the following tweaks:

Offset: 1D3F
Change: 0F 84 D2 00 00 00
To: 0F 85 D2 00 00 00

Offset: 1E54
Change: 74 CA B8 5C 30 49 00
To: EB CA B8 5C 30 49 00

If you don't have a favorite hex editor, try this one:

xvi32

The switch to D3D doesn't make a huge difference in the visual quality so no big whoop there, but it is nice to have the f2 save key.

Enjoy,
m6oo

I've used the pre-patched (hex-edited) mdk95 executable and ran the game just fine (thanks to all who posted about hex-editing). I've used F2 to save in game, yet once I've exited and restarted the game I can't seem to load my saved games. From the main menu, clicking "Saved Game" shows all 2 of the files that should be there, yet when I click them, they just boot me right back to the main menu - any ideas?

The mdkw95.exe runs fine for me on win XP Pro SP2 after changing the mdk.cfg file as others have indicated before. I don't know about any of the other problems except for....

I was having the problem when trying to run the mdkd3d.exe version where the program would prompt for the CD. Found the hex tweaks on some other sites to convert the various executables to no-cd, but the mdkd3d.exe version with this archive didn't match. Downloaded the mdkd3d.exe patch fresh from the net. While the tweak instructions matched for this executable, the tweak didn't work. It got past the CD check, but got hung up on "MDK Executable Version Is Incompatible with MDK CD."

So...I did some research, disassembled the code and made a proper no-cd tweak based on the fresh mdkd3d.exe that you can download from the net. I have no idea what's going on with the mdkd3d.exe file that is in the archive provided here. It's not the correct size, and it made my disassembler choke.

First, get the official mdkd3d.exe file from your favorite game site. Here's a link:

MDK D3D Patch

It should be exactly 671,232 bytes long.

Use your favorite hex editor to make the following tweaks:

Offset: 1D3F
Change: 0F 84 D2 00 00 00
To: 0F 85 D2 00 00 00

Offset: 1E54
Change: 74 CA B8 5C 30 49 00
To: EB CA B8 5C 30 49 00

If you don't have a favorite hex editor, try this one:

xvi32

The switch to D3D doesn't make a huge difference in the visual quality so no big whoop there, but it is nice to have the f2 save key.

Enjoy,

Hello there i hope this will help you so for the MDKD3D.EXE to work do exactly like m6oo tells you but just take care because the offsets were a little different to me after a little search and of course with the help of m6oo i found the offsets.

They were different(or this is how they display to me with that editor) so in place of:
-------------------------------------------
Offset: 1D3F for me is 1D30 so search offset that i tell you cose i know what i saw.

and change the values that he told us

And in place of:

Offset: 1E54 for me is 1E58

and again change the values that m6oo told us
-------------------------------------------
Thanks m6oo it realy helped me alot i did not find the offsets you told us but they were close i can't guess why to you was different.

And yes the MDKD3D.EXE from the package here is damaged it does not run anyway you try it.

I have WinXp SP2 and works ok.

Enjoy everybody this game i remember that it gave me good sensations at that time 1997-1998.

Adrian,
