Actually all of the newer movies except Lord of the Rings are dull, I think. Titles such as Hot Chicks, Riddick - Chronicles of a Warrior (which could be a way better than it is), Alexander, Star Wars Episode 1 and 2 (didn't see 2, but saw some cuts of it and all people I know say it's bad) and more and more. Seeing as USA is at the moment THE provider of the movies for the world, the quality of that movies really fell down in the last years in the whole world...
Though Japanese and most French movies are still very good, but unfortunately little known in comparison to the American movies.

Nah, French movies are like french books: they tried waaaay too hard.
They always try to cram their movies with visions of poverty and stuff like that in the hopes of trying to make the viewer care. A european country that has produced quite a few quality films, however, is Germany.
'Goodbye Lenin' and 'Der Untergang' are among the best movies I've seen in some time mainly because they are cultural and informative (unlike most big-budget movies these days) and they are also great to watch at the same time (unlike French movies which are plain boring)

Its a pity a lot of people have branded Der Untergang as an 'evil' movie and thus don't watch it. My teacher German wanted to take our class to go see Der Untergang but our new principal put a stop to it because it was a 'controversial movie', the uncultured hobo.

Anyway, French movies are terrible, they either try too hard to be touching (La vie devant soi) or they show people dancing for three hours long (La roi dance). Don't get me wrong I like Lully's music and the costumes were nice but there is just so much a person can stand. Even the replacement teacher French who went to see it with us fell asleep halfway through the movie.
