I'm trying to run this one from dos. Can't get the joystick to work in XP.
Is it possible to read .cue files in dos? When I copy the files from the virtual cd created by Daemon and fakecd that directory in dos, I still get "no cd" message when I try to install it.

I played both the original (5 disk set) with the add-on campaigns (Imperial Pursuit and B-Wing). I never found any of the missions overly difficult (I am usually at the rank of General by the end of the 1st campaign) and am comfortable with taking on ISDs and Frigates (if you destroy all the freighters in the first mission of the first campaign, a frigate shows up. Easy 24 tie firghter kills and if you want a frigate kill as well). I also managed to destroy almost all the ships in the recon mission (in the A-Wing with no missles)... I think I missed out on the shuttle and transporter that come in 5 minutes after the STD. Yea... I am addicted to the game... wish I could get it working though....

Sadly the disks are so old (well over 10 years old) that the data is corrupted on them. I actually tried using them a few years ago when I picked up an old 486 from a friend (I was really looking forward to playing the game again). Right now I am trying to this download working on anothe rold beast I picked up (a Pentium 100MHz with Windows 95). Anyone offer any help??

Oh... one thing: you can make a backup of your pilots by making a copy of the pilot file. When you die in a blinding flash and a ball of expanding gas, just exit the game and copy the back-up file overtop of your dead pilot. I think it was with this edition you could 'revive' your pilot, but lose all your points. I found out that, after your pilot died, if you close the window for X-Wing (without closing the game itself), you could back your pilot, go back to the game, revive him, close the game down, and load it back up and have the points and the kills you got in the mission you got killed in, and still have your pilot (and so you can brag about having 20 Star Destroyer kills despite only playing four or five missions ). I'll suggest playing around with it a bit first... because sadly, it has been a long time....

heh, I remember doing stuff like that. I set up batch files to automatically back up and restore my pilots in x-wing. Tie fighter had it set up in-game, so that wasn't necessary. My best friend and I prided ourselves on killing EVERY fighter, ship, and non-vital craft in the game. We'd send all our pilots home and do all the work ourselves. I remember absolutely hating the identify and disable two shuttles mission where there was 12 or so shuttles going toward a frigate, and several waves of tie interceptors going after your puny lil y-wing. Hairy.

Curiousity question, because I am having a freak'n nasty time with dosbox . Should I be able to directly burn the files onto a cd and have it work without having to unzip them or anything and have it work? Be great to know before I attempt it. I already have enough coasters from failed cd burning projects...

What the heck... one more shouldn't hurt. And besides... come spring, they make good targets (cds also explode when hit by .303 or .30-06 bullets

I grew up with v1.0 of this game, but I could never find the CD-ROM game with B-Wings. The copy I had was 5 "floppy" disks (called hard disks back then), and it wasn't terribly difficult most of the time. I always had problems with two of the Episode II missions, but aside from that I was fine.

Anyone else have problems getting the joystick to work? I'm playing the game fine under DOSBox, and I have a joystick installed that I know is working, but no dice in the game. Suggestions anyone?
