I brought Pagan on the 3.5 and CD only installed to see if it worked and then put it away. I did like what I saw though and was planning on playing it one day which never came. I still have them and the whole Ultima collection. I would like to see a return to Ultima but guess that would never happen and yes, out of the whole series Ultima 7 and its expansions was the best.

There is no such thing as a Cd-Rip of Ultima VIII, the game is installing itself fully from the files on CD and plays from hard drive. This is what you have for download here, the installed and ready full game.

Yes, except that the "cd version" came with the speech pack integrated, the floppy version had it seperate.

Looks like its there. I just downloaded and compared it to mine installed from the original Ultima Collection CD and all the sound files look the same.
The directory from abandonia is 1-2MB bigger then mine though... Maybe mine doesnt have em, to be honest after all these years Ive never been interested in even starting Pagan so never actually played it hehe..

Just finished the game. At the moment my desk if filled with notes containing scribbled texts on reagents, spells and other obscurities. A game without a quest log or map of any kind was quite the challenge. Though early memories of my first playthrough during the nineties helped a lot.

Is a real shame that they never released the expansion. There are some screenshots out there and they look really interesting.

Oh, first post in this forum by the way. I just had to join up as thanks to Abandonia for making this game available.

They actually did make a finished version of the expansion The Lost Vale though never released it for sale. But there is one single full version of it which was sold on eBay in around 2005 for a huge mass of money to a collector who's of course holding it tight instead of releasing it to everyone for being available.
Look here for details: Link

I don't know, Scatty. My impression from that forum link is not that that a full, finished copy of an expansion was made, or sold, but that the box and its art are accurate. The fact that nobody has commented upon the code, and that neither Garriott nor EA are t screaming bloody murder over a game they supposedly own but was never sold and has now been auctioned off, should tell us all something.

Well I don't think that a simple game box and maybe manual alone would be sold for so much money. It is a single, finished copy of the expansion for Ultima VIII which never made it out into producing more and distributing for sale, thus remaining the only piece of full Lost Vale available worldwide.

Not too sure about that. I've seen some games going for $500 US and up. It's just possible that as time moves on, what we view as contemporary or slightly old will become viewed as antique. And there are people who were practically teethed on the Ultima games. To have even the box art for one nobody else has...? Wouldn't surprise me. And I would be very surprised if a copy of a product never issued with public license by Garriott or EA was sold to somebody else without a bunch of lawyers stepping in.

I remember hearing on the BBC a few years back that a plastic saxophone owned by Charlie Parker, the legendary jazz musician, sold for $10 million US. Parker never saw $100,000 in his entire lifetime.

Of course, if it is real, the thing is very easy to prove. Just invite over a few reputable reviewers familiar with the Ultima series. Have them check out the box, and on film, capture them looking at, and playing, the title. I'll believe this one-copy-game exists when I see prove of it.
