I've got another question: I've uploaded a valid 82x82 png for a news post, but it doesn't show up, instead there's a 'nonews.gif'. Should I try another format next time, or what?

This is a known bug. Don't worry, it will happen with every kind of image.

We are not without updaters/translators, but I believe none of us (old team) has the "translator" tag, so we have no options... I'm not sure if the other team members are available to return to translations, but I can try to return, if, I can get permission and the privilege for that

You should have been given acces to the translator forum - must have been some kind of oversight (which is now corrected).
