Default DosBox 0.72, Ubuntu 9.04, arrow keys

I just downloaded and installed the newest version of DosBox available for my version of Ubuntu, and it has a pretty major problem: It can't seem to recognize the arrow keys on my keyboard.

In the keymapper, the events for up, right, down and left are labeled jhat_0_0_0, jhat_0_0_1, jhat_0_0_2 and jhat_0_0_3. Trying to manually bind my arrow buttons to these events doesn't work, as my up button is seen as the print screen button, my left button as the right alt button and right and down are labeled "Key unknown key".

That is NOT a dosbox issue, but an Ubuntu driver problem, Ubu screwed up here.
Ask help on the Ubu forums or Vogons.

Thanks, I guess I'll keep looking in that direction.

That latest version is 0.73? Because they said they'd fix by now.

If you are running DOSBox on Ubuntu 8.10 (or some other distro that uses the evdev driver in X) you will notice that some keys don't work, most noticiable the arrow keys.

This is because Ubuntu changed something related to the scancodes, we are working on it, but as none of us runs Ubuntu 8.10 it is not top priority. If you have an English/American keyboard layout then (and only then!) you can use the following workaround. Open a console and enter the following command:
echo -e "[sdl]\nusescancodes=false\n" >>~/.dosboxrc
We will have it fixed in the next version though.
