![]() There was some instructions to get sound working in dos and vmware.
But if you are telling me it isn`t 100% compatible then I won`t lose time with trying something that won`t get good. Thanks for telling me. |

![]() Well aside from that it isn't perfect it is still an interesting platform to have installed.

![]() VMWare same as Virtual PC is 'close' enough to play DOS games, but if you know how to install and setup DOS. Same is the case for real PC, where you have to install and then setup DOS, make your startup use high memory, so that you have most of RAM to start the game.
Not to forget that you might need sound drivers etc. which you don't need on your DOSBOx which uses DirectX sound and video drivers. |

![]() If you're looking for a VM to run DOS in I would recommend looking at VirtualBox. Its a opensource VM that is really good. Its a good alternative to both VirtualPC and VMWare.
You can find it at http://www.virtualbox.org/ |

![]() I tried to enable soundsupport in VM-Ware with Dos 7.10 for quite a week now. Reading a lot of messages and topic in several forums. Installing some sounddrivers, configurate them but nothing helped I am still without a beep in every game.
My advice is using dosbox. If anyone out there was able to active soundsupport in VM-Ware I would glad to get an instruction. I will retry it now with VirtualBox. Since Crusader No remorse is very resistent to work with any other OS than Dos. So long... |

![]() Crusader works fine in dosbox.
Virtualbox has no additions for MSDos. http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Guest_OSes If you want a working VM for dos look for VPC2004@MS downloads. It comes with the MSDos additions on a floppy image. Install your MSDos in VPC2004, mount the floppy image,-(Dos Virtual Machine Additions.vfd)- run the dosadd.bat and you will have cd, mouse and SB-sound(220-5-1) support in it. Works perfect. BTW, the VPC2004 dos additions also works in VPC2007.

![]() I just took some time and tested VirtualBox. Not only that DOS does not work well with it, but Win9X do not work good as well.
They will boot fine, but you will struggle with sound and video settings. (16 colors and lowest resolution) Funny enough, WinNT will work fine without problems. (it was always hell to set it up on real computers To emulate DOS/Win9X use VirtualPC. Older pre-microsoft version used to come with pre-installed DOS. :amused: |
