Hey, I just wanted to know how to get this game started on a Windows XP. I have the CD, but I have no idea how to get it to work.

Have you ever tried putting the CD in? The autorun should take care of it (unless you got some weird DOS only version). The game was made for both DOS and Win95, so it shouldn't be a problem (at least mine works fine).

I did put the CD in, I'm not a total idiot. My computer just won't read it. I can't find the original cd case, so I don't know if it is only DOS, though I see no reason why it should be.

If anyone can help, that would be great.

Then maybe the CD is damaged. Sorry! You can try getting DOSBox and try to install the DOS version of the game (maybe that would still work).

Unfortunataly this is a problem many people have. The disk either runs and installs just fine or it doesn't run at all. (either way without a dos emulater you can only play city-only mode)

Sorry, I don't know any solutions

If it makes anybody feel better Tiltedmill is coming out with caesar 4 later this year :Brain: for those that don't know impressions was stripped to it's bones then disbanded but many of the former employees responsible for the classic citybuilding series left before then and formed Tiltedmill. last year Vu-sierra asked them (rather exitedly) if they would make Caesar 4 and ofcoarse they said yes!

For phantom: Of course you're regarded as "family" . YOU are caesar. LOL

as to the city size, It really depends on the map. If the river runs across from side to side, in a reasonablly straight line, and somewhere in the middle, then 40K is possible. Hard to get "Culture" ratings very high with that many people.
30K is usually do-able, and "culture" can usually be obtained to the 70+ mark.

However, I run the game with 20K on every province and can obtain 96 - 99 % Culture consistantly.

for cagemalion, my first piece of advice is to try and "explore" the CD. Open "My Computor" and click on the drive letter. If the CD can be read, then exploring the CD will show files and folders.
If this does not work, then your CD is damaged and you're Basically SOL. Sorry.

And for everyone else that has been having problems, I really have no good answers. I'm running XP. I opened a DOS Command Prompt, inserted the CD, ran "Autorun" and followed the DOS install process.
To run the game, I click START, RUN, and type the path\filename.
Everything works.

Back to phantom, do you have the update patch? Do you get the availabliity to "Continue as Caesar"?
email me; pls

I can send you some savegame files to show my city building plans to use property effectively. Or as effectively as I've been able to develop. LOL

Im not sure if there is a patch or not, if there is you should still be able to download it from the official sierra website. If that's not the problem try playing on the hardest game setting

I was on the Tiltedmill forums awhile ago and found an interesting thread, just so everybody knows old disks and 52x cdrom drives DON'T mix (duh) some poor fellow just had his c2 disk explode in his cd-rom drive I can see this becoming a problem in the not so distant future :not_ok:
here is a link to the thread www.Tiltedmill.com

You might want to post that as a thread in one of the tech sections, preferably Compatibility.
