Updater's Note: The game will definitely not run with XP. I found that running the game through VDM sound offered the best gaming experience, especially where the sound was concerned. From my experience, I recommend using this program.
THIS IS NOT TRUE !!

I have play this game under pure WindowsXP without ANY problems - even wtih sond and movies !!

Just give the "Xeen.exe" and "Xeen.com" 640kb of base memory insted of default "Automatic".

The problem with running the game this way is that some of the timers are completely off.

Cool

k: So I figured out what’s going on with the game.

You might want to print this out so you can refer to it when you’re in DOSBox.

First of all, create a folder called dos in c:

Run the zip file you downloaded to install World of Xeen

When the unzip program asks you where to unzip the files tell it c:\dos\

Now open up My Computer and go to c:\dos

Single click on the World of Xeen folder

Press F2 and change the folder name to WOXeen

This is the end of the setup in windows

Now go to your start menu and run DOSBox

Press ALT+Enter to make it full screen

Type in the following: mount c c:\

Now type c:

Now type cd dos

Now type cd woxeen

Now type install

Press y to install the game

Now you should just have to type go

You can press ESC to skip all the intros

The game should launch fine and all should be good

Hopefully this works as it should… it worked fine for me on my computer. The reason you were getting the memory error is because you were running the game from windows and it was totally skipping any of the DOSBox features that you installed

Ack! I meant to quote the guy above when I did this. i meant.... the problem with running the game in XP mode with the memory settings on all the files set so that the game thinks it has enough memory, is that that doesn't account for the in game timers for alot of things.

So... playing the game this way messes with some of the timers.

Having played and owning all 9 games in the series (bought them all) I know that 4 & 5 are the best. Note that they are also the easiest. I'd rank from easiest to hardest (4,5,7,8,6,3,9,2,1). 6 was really good, but it needed the technology upgrade provided in 7. Alas, 7 was not as strong a game and 8 had bad sequalitis. 9 was horrible I'm sorry to say, between the graphics and the interface. As for the early ones, 1 was far too hard. Often the first combat would kill a lvl 1 party. However, 2 got a little easier and had nicer graphics. 3 was really good, and paved the way for the best one (two?).

To confirm what nearly everyone has said already: Swords was a 3rd party expansion pack that was included in the collectors edition of M&M 6. World of Xeen was Clouds of Xeen + Darkside of Xeen.

I would have posted copy codes, but they're already up. Also, I can upload the others if people are interested, though 6 thru 9 are considered off limits because they are still sold occasionally (Check around on ebay to find them cheap). Don't want 3DO breathing down my neck. Not to mention that the games are huge.

Hi. Hope I'm doing this right. Just downloaded world of xeen, and it brought back some memories.
I did have trouble with the "password protect", and from other posters, I'm not alone in this. The manual doesn't jive with the instructions.
Anyway, I used a bypass file from an old Clouds of Xeen and it works fine.

I also have a savegame utility that lets you modify all character attributes, plus gold & gems.

If anyone's interested in either or both, email me at signemrs@netscape.com and I'll send 'em on to you.

Mike

Here is my compilation of what various attributes will do to your armor/weapons/accessories.

One of the most common mistakes is that people assume that the attributes are the same for ranged weapons. This is not so. Unfortunately, I do not have a comprehensive list for ranged weapons. That is one area I am lacking as I noticed this disparity late in the game.

Here is my list.

SP
Spell +4???
Mystic +5???
Castors +8
Witch +12
Mage +16???
Archmage +20???
Arcane +25???
