I've no idea why you find the plot of Super Mario Brothers so strange? My plumber is always jumping on mushrooms and dreams of finding a princess in the plumbing... OK, he's not Italian - just drunk all the time, but still...

Mario jumps on mushrooms to stop himself from smoking them... you've seen the freaky colours they are.
Oddly coloured mushroom eh.... magic mushroom more like! We all know Mario has/had an alcohol/drug problem prior to starring in his adventures!
