I've been wanting to play this game since I first saw it advertised waaaay back before it came out. I never did get around to buying it for some reason. I just played it for the first time and I have to say I'm absolutely unimpressed.

The board graphics are so-so. The in-game fighting graphics are lacking, and the "3D" perspective really makes it impossible to tell if you're going to hit something. The gameplay is far too slow and unresponsive to be anywhere close to as playable as the original Archon on the C64 and Amiga. And to top it all off, the music is annoying and very repetitive. Even the sound effects are terrible.

The only decent aspect of this game is the still artwork that they show of the characters just before a fight, which was mentioned in the review. I'm so sad right now... I was hoping this would be a fun game, but alas... my icon is imprisoned!

They could have done much better, and should have.

If you're having problems targeting, concentrate on the shadows and try aligning yourself square to the enemy. PS with melee units attacking will come easily if you're patient and get close enough.

What is the actual problem? Does the game start, freezez out, gives some error code...?

Try to run it in DosBox, it works fine for me on both Win'98 and Win7.

I'm not sure. I run it as I would with any other game on DosBox, and rather than loading I just get a black screen, no sound. Sounds like multiple other people in this thread have had the same issue with it.

what's your OP? What version of DosBox you use? If there is a setup file did you try to set to your configuration?

To be honest I have no idea how to do that stuff, my experience with emulators is not up to par to say the least.

I'm using DosBox-0.63.

There's your problem. That's a really old version of DOSBox.

The game is broken in 0.61-0.63 (well, there's a fix to make it run...).
Upgrade your DOSBox version to 0.74.
