![]() I remembered a game my nephew had years ago. It was one of the first Delta Force games. I remember it was pretty decent at the time but now I wonder: Would it be worth it to get one of the D.F. games? I prefer varied missions where you are the master, not games where you are on a ride trying to hang on. As an example: I saw D.F. Black Hawk Down and I hated that chopper ride where you basically just had to fire at anything that moved while praying to god the pilot knew what he was doing. In contrast, I love Hitman CN 47 for the exact opposite: There it's entirely up to you where, when or if to strike.
The A.I. should be good, but it's not really a must. I can enjoy killing idiots just as much as killing elite forces. Graphics wise: The screenies of the first D.F. wasn't too bad. Of vourse, in FPSs graphics do add a touch, but I don't mind the graphics of the first D.F. My PC specs (just for the record): Pentium 2.8 GHz dual core, 2GB RAM, GeForce 7500LE (sucks), XP/Vista Any of the D.F. games you want to recommend based on these preferences and specs?

![]() Delta Force 2 is my favorite.
And yes, Black Hawk Down is far different from the others, it's more of a generic war shooter. In relation to freedom in your objectives, Delta Force (the first two) it's pretty flexible, just don't expect Operation Flashpoint. There's a lot of extraction missions, stealth, firefights, and long distance gun fighting. The graphics may not look that bad in screens, but those are usually compressed and the pixels don't stick out as bad. They're voxel graphics, so if you're picky about a game's looks in relation to what came out at the time, it's pretty bad. You can pretty much run any of them with those specs dude. EDIT: I almost forgot to mention Delta Force: Xtreme STAY AWAY FROM IT, the revisions it makes to the game isn't really all that necessary and only serves to water it down (it's a remake of the original).

![]() Hmmm... Seems the D.F.2 won't run at all in XP (ISO in Daemon Tools/PowerISO), only in my WIn98 Virtual PC, but there the speed is atrociously slow and the game is completly unplayable.
Any suggestions? EDIT: Seems Daemon Tools didn't like this ISO and that it messed it up for PowerISO as well. I re-booted and started up PowerISO and got the installation working, but XP still doesn't like this game. 2nd EDIT: Ok, I got it to work under XP, just don't ask me how. Nice game, and I remember it was the very same my nephew had. 3rd EDIT: I seem to remember, however, that you could manipulate the teams, either by orders or by setting waypoints and such. I haven't found any of that.

![]() Ah yes i remember delta force2 with it's totally different polygons graphics. I thought it was pretty good only the A.I. sometimes isn't very smart. If you are sniping people away they would start running blindly around and not seeking any cover. From there on it was shooting them down one after the other.

![]() i made an awesome campaign for DF2 playing as Spetsnaz. it had it all. sniping missions, helicopters, air insertion, "random" artilery strikes, boatrides, stealth (you have to love that grass) etc, etc. then one day i though i already had it on CD so i deleted it. later on i found out i actually didn't put it on CD yet. :wallbash:
it's actually amazing what you can do with that engine and how simple it is. they even managed to simulate tank fire there... anyway yeah deltaforce is preety much rambolike straightforward shooter. However there is a patch available that turns the game into Co-op. to play with your friends and family. and another thing is that there are custom made maps available which allow a bit more movement. the whole i dea of CQB in those shanty towns was good but execution is bad. i mean why do i need to stay on the misison else game over. howabout if i climb on that hill to have a better look of the enemy ?!?! bah... nice graphics though only you are restricted too much in the way you do the mission. anyway as i see the whole series moved into large scale online "team" combat.

![]() Ok, after failing and failing and keeping on failing this rescue mission, I looked up to a walkthtough. The secret: Do NOT let your fellow commandos (who are running like possessed cheetas) get IN FRONT of you. You will then fail the mission. EXCUSE ME? What the bloody hell is that all about? What's next? Follow the invisible path or you'll die? This is nothing short of unbelievable and I can honestly not for the life of me figure out what the programmers' idea was here. One BIG thumb down to DF2. :wallbash:

![]() huh?! i do not recall any such mission with this specific problem. anyway i hate rescue missions in all games cause usually the person you should rescue is very dumb and has tendency to run into enemy fire.
anyway once you create your own mission you can easilly see why things are as they are. there are trigger areas and if you do not step into them then things do not happen. as a result for example convoy won't move until you step in certain place. so for official mission follow the waypoints. only a few can be made roaming arround free. oh and the commando team that is with you is also triggered. so maybe if you do not trigger them they stay behind you, you can then clear the area and then trigger them. btw is the mission "rescue a downed pilot"? but if you make your own mission (which is very easy) you can do as you like. despite getting help from your "team" DF2 is still best played alone. and the main missions are not really that connected. huh?! i do not recall any such mission with this specific problem. anyway i hate rescue missions in all games cause usually the person you should rescue is very dumb and has tendency to run into enemy fire. anyway once you create your own mission you can easilly see why things are as they are. there are trigger areas and if you do not step into them then things do not happen. as a result for example convoy won't move until you step in certain place. so for official mission follow the waypoints. only a few can be made roaming arround free. oh and the commando team that is with you is also triggered. so maybe if you do not trigger them they stay behind you, you can then clear the area and then trigger them. btw is the mission "rescue a downed pilot"? but if you make your own mission (which is very easy) you can do as you like. despite getting help from your "team" DF2 is still best played alone. and the main missions are not really that connected.
