![]() I got me a new machine with Vista Home Premium (32 bits), and supprise, when trying to run some of them older games I get told that the game frown on Vista, even in compatibility mode.
F22 Total Air War: No sound. I got an error message when installing it, but I forgot what it said (DOH!). I'll try to re-install it and take notes. X:Tension: Wrong OS though XBTF works fine. Trouble is that X:T is kinda cool but XBTF is dull as a bladeless knife. Caesar 3: Won't install at all no matter what. "Wrong OS". Falcon 4.0 Allied Force: Really unstable, though it was very stable under XP Microsoft's Virtual PC 7: Won't install. Not supported? Saitek X-45 Flight Controller: I found no programming software for Vista machines, and the Vista drivers from Saitek are kind of unstable. DirectX issues: Few if any cards and drivers today use DX 10 technology. As I understand it, Vista use DX 10 technology (could be wrong). How to "degrade" the version? And is it really necessary? Morrowind (Tribunal/Bloodmoon) last version (European patch): When trying to exit the ship at the beginning, the game stops responding. I tried various patches, but to no use. This topic is for problems that occur and solutions. Yes, "Google is your friend" and all that, but if many have the same issues, then a topic lioke this would be better. So, if you have Vista, and are facing a challenge, feel free to post and maybe someone knows the answer (he prayed).

![]() I don't think Vista is meant for the end consumer for at least a year or two, the same was with XP.

About MSN Messenger Live, I found that there is a patch out (Messenger Plus Live) that makes Live work under Vista. Another way I found which didn't do the trick, was to type some mumbo jumbo in CMD as admin. Basically what I look for are fixes/methods from the manufacturers, pros and amateurs.

![]() I guess then that the transition will take even more time, are you still on Vista or switched back to XP?

![]() Still on Vista. My "version" of XP isn't alltogether, in every nitty gritty detail, approved by MS, and that started to bug me when they found out and started to bombard my PC with "buy or die" stuff.

Actually with VPC you'll be able to solve all your compatibility problems if you set up a Win9X machine or whatever you need.

![]() Unfortunately, even if it's hard to believe: It wouldn't install. I dld both versions because the 32 didn't work at first so I tried the 64 one. No-go at both.
EDIT: A visit to microsoft revealed that Vista Home Premium is not supported. Strange.

for any game that does not recognise that dx is installed you may need to use the compatability mode option and I believe that that is accessed in the same way as xp's as ever please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong LOL |

But it is odd indeed. It won't even install? It would be another thing if VPC installed with a warning about your Win version's not being "supported", and then it didn't work properly. But not installing at all? ---> Say, have you tried downloading the latest version of Windows Installer for your system? (And, did you download VPC from MS Download Centre or from a third party, bootleg source? If the latter then try the former.)
