I don't know if anyone comes here anymore, but I finally won this game tonight. Here are some tips that might help.
- Krogh seems to randomly be invulnerable for a short period of time. Just hit him five or so times and then the magic sword will start to work. Some attempts, he was not invulnerable at all.
- You don't need the rune tablets to win, especially not the one in the forgotten house. It is way too much trouble, and they don't do much of anything. Just use invuln. potions (see below).
- To get the sword in the stone, you have to have a party member with no experience points. I used the princess, but gave it to Aramir.
- The southern (I believe) entrance to Elwing fortress is a perfect place to level and get rich. Just walk in and out the door after each battle. There are agility, intelligence, and wisdom trainers nearby, as well as the best shop in the game and spells.
- 22 points was the max I got my stats. Aramir was at 22 on strength, agility, and 20 at wisdom and intell. Strength is the most expensive, and the only one I could find was way back in the first town. I'd get a couple hundred thousand gold and head back there. Thanks to the ease of loading saves with Dosbox, if you get extremely unlucky with stat gains, just reload and try again.
- The cleric Obarman is not as important as walkthroughs make him out to be. His resurrection spell never even worked for me (not sure if it was a glitch or what). If you lose him or don't want to get him, don't worry about it. I ended up killing him and keeping Aramir with the de-charm potion, and I'm very glad I did.
- Krogh is easy. Save after you kill the last of the three wizards, and then make yourself an invulnerability potion. Give it to Aramir, and go to work. I was dealing out 920 damage a shot. Everyone else died, though, but I won easily. Second time, I realized I had enough materials to make three potions, so I kept Kreylia (sp?) (the priest) and Dorian (the other priest), but neither did anything useful. Make sure you make Aramir's last so it stays around long enough to win. I believe the ingriedients are 1 salamander oil, 1 gargoyle claw, 1 rat brian, and 1 dried mistletoe.
- The dragon didn't deal me any damage, even though it kept popping up on my guys' faces. I think it might have been a glitch, but it's the same everytime. Damage numbers come up, but there is no decrease in hp.
Hope this helps. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.
Edit: I forgot to add that if your casters get inverted, don't worry about it. I think everyone but Aramir was inverted when I won it. It doesn't effect spells, and you don't need a backup warrior for Krogh anyway. If your main guy does get afflicted with it, just reload. I saved after every wizard to be safe.
