In a couple of weeks things will be different I think:
1) Prices will be down a couple of €€€
2) More people have tried the game, so in fora all over the internet should you find people playing on different configs. There's bound to be someone playing on one similar to yours (or NOT playing if the specs are too low...).
But I do agree with you that a demo could solve all this insecurity...
