I could be wrong but I believe that this IS NHL '94. I arrive at this conculsion because of the copyright date on the title screen being 1993. The series has always released for upcoming season. I have the NHL 95 CD version which is copyright 1994 for example. I think this was the first release for the PC and was actually just called NHL Hockey. There were previous season releases for console systems. I have found conflicting info on this even on Moby Games so I could be wrong. Anyone know for sure?
Seems there is no NHL '93 per say. That version was called NHLPA '93 because EA couldn't get the license from the NHL and it was not available for PC. They did get license from the player's association so player names were included but not team names. Teams were referred to as "City" ie. NY Islanders were referred to as Long Island.

NHL '94 was the first version for the PC. It was called NHL '94 on the Genesis and SNES but on the PC it was referred to as NHL Hockey. Fighting and players bleeding on the ice were dropped from the game. I think they added Panthers and the Ducks in this version as well. (Been a while since I played.)

The next version, NHL '95 has improved gameplay and full season cababilites, shot blocking and fake shots. You can also create and trade players in '95. It does look somewhat similar to '94 and it is the one with Richter on the front.

The game found here should be referred to as NHL Hockey or NHL '94 so as not to confuse us Canadian lacrosse players.
