Thumbs up

Hi, I got a problem with it, too. When I type in "mdk.exe" to install the game in DOS 6.22 I get the following error message: ERROR OPENING MISC\MDKFONT.FTI - check manual. Any suggestions anyone?

I adore MDK, but I have a slight problem.

After completing the first level, I chose to save the game - but all I got after trying to save was an error message like, ''Can't save game to directory path" or something to that extent. I saw that another user pointed out the Direct3D patch that supposedly fixed the savegame bug. The D3D patch overwrote the original "MDK95" file and now everytime I click it, it prompts me for the CD (which, duh, I don't own). I tried editing the configuration file, but I'm not too sure I'm doing it right.

Any suggestions?

I thought I should check again what MDK stands for and apparently it depends on which member of the design team you speak to as to what it stands for. I know PC Zone magazine ran a competition when it was released for what it meant. The answer they gave was Mission Deliver Kindness. I've also seen a few comments on the web from people stating that it was written in the manual as well.

great game! though I had some problems with controls configuration...the 2nd part of the game works better.....

but just jumping, shooting and parachuting outweighs this all

@pete: just read through this thread. you'll find the answer you need just 6 or 7 times: edit mdk.cfg and replace "c:\mdk" by "direction where you unzipped it". then it'll do just fine (p.s.:try running mdk95.exe, runs without dosBox)

greetings

But Shiny HAS said that the first game stands for "Murder Death Kill.". And the second game stands for "Max, Doc, Kurt".

The mdkw95.exe runs fine for me on win XP Pro SP2 after changing the mdk.cfg file as others have indicated before. I don't know about any of the other problems except for....

I was having the problem when trying to run the mdkd3d.exe version where the program would prompt for the CD. Found the hex tweaks on some other sites to convert the various executables to no-cd, but the mdkd3d.exe version with this archive didn't match. Downloaded the mdkd3d.exe patch fresh from the net. While the tweak instructions matched for this executable, the tweak didn't work. It got past the CD check, but got hung up on "MDK Executable Version Is Incompatible with MDK CD."

So...I did some research, disassembled the code and made a proper no-cd tweak based on the fresh mdkd3d.exe that you can download from the net. I have no idea what's going on with the mdkd3d.exe file that is in the archive provided here. It's not the correct size, and it made my disassembler choke.

First, get the official mdkd3d.exe file from your favorite game site. Here's a link:

MDK D3D Patch

It should be exactly 671,232 bytes long.

Use your favorite hex editor to make the following tweaks:

Offset: 1D3F
Change: 0F 84 D2 00 00 00
To: 0F 85 D2 00 00 00

Offset: 1E54
Change: 74 CA B8 5C 30 49 00
To: EB CA B8 5C 30 49 00

If you don't have a favorite hex editor, try this one:

xvi32

The switch to D3D doesn't make a huge difference in the visual quality so no big whoop there, but it is nice to have the f2 save key.

Enjoy,
