Okay you've convinced me to give it a try It's funny how attached people or least I do to certain ways of doing things and hate it when someone offers a different idea. Heck Dosbox first allowed me to finally get Ultima Savage Empire working (with Sound) after years of having to switch our hard drives with different operating systems to play different games, also the slowdown method dosbox used was a heck of a lot better than moslo or CPUkiller. I can't even switch out hard drives anymore due to the Duel processors (Windows 98 doesn't like them) So I use Virtual PC for windows games and Dosbox for Dos. Anyways point is Sorry about the snippy remark about the whole Dos thing and I'll give D-fend a look.

One thing I can tell you about D-Fend: Don't bother.
It's known to cause compatibility problems with games that would otherwise work perfectly in DOSBox.
I suggest either that you use DBGL or go the way I did - creating customized configs and shortcuts to run DOSBox with the given config. It's quite easy, and gets the "click icon to run the game" result.

Okay, please tell me there is a stupid herb in Cimmeria somwhere...I got to the place where you have to leave armor, medicine, jewelry, and a weapon, and of course I don't have any herbs. And stupidly, I left my Jade Necklace in the jewelry spot, then went galavanting around to the treasure chests to see if they contain a herb...but of course, I'm only a level 4 Rogue without the necklace and can't pick the damned locks! And when I went back to where I left the Jade Necklace, it's gone...

So...is there any hope? I suppose I could run around with a crossbow and shoot those green frog-looking things in an attempt to gain a Rogue level and to try to pick the locks...but does anyone happen to know if there's an herb stored in the castle somewhere?

Remember that Bezel Cups counts as 'Medicine' as well.

To raise your Rogue level, I'd go back to the Urbish Mining co. and go to the pumping machine. Now, face north, get Crossbow 'Valkyrie' (and an additional one in case of Baccata, of course) and weigh down F1 (for your main character), F2 (for Baccata) or F3 (for Paulson), depending on whose Rogue level you wish to increase. In the mean while you can do something else.

If I recall correctly, there should be some herbs in a chest (you need Rogue level 7 to open this one, so you most likely miss this one) on Castle Cimmeria level 2.

there will be a crossbow (or dagger?) which increases your rogue skill. but btw, if you keep clicking lockpicks on a chest over and over like your mouse was on fire, after while it always worked for me

Hi people
I have a problem playing Conrad with Baccata & Paulson. Those guys upgrading for level or two while Conrad's statistics almost freezes - all because in action he used to miss 2,3 or even 4 times for 1 hit while Baccata&Paulson miss about half of tries. So he can't hit enemy - others already killed everyone. Is it ok? His might/protection is 88/138, B&P -- 88/87 & 52/91. Any suggestions, except that i'm a loser?

Well, you can always try to specialize him in magic. That will become handy by the end of the game.

You have to get a copy of the game manual. which cane be downloaded on several sites...including this one
later on you will need a second book near the end of the ivory tower level...the book of lore which i can't find online anywhere.(IF ANY ONE KNOWS A SITE WHERE IT IS PLEASE POST IT)...however in an earlier post i found some excerpt from it ...here they are....
