I remember in the 80's some gaming magazine had the mega-cheat for this game. You messed with the code or did something strange which gave you a really FUBAR'ed car, but then you went to salvage and could sell it for like 400k, then buy everything you wanted LOL. Loved this game, happy to have d/led and played it again 20+ years later!

any idea if there's anything similar to this game (maybe freeware clone of some sort?) that's made more recently?
hasn't seen anything that has the Mad Max style setting to it and the closest thing is Autoduel which in addition to being commercial and undevelopment it's also a MMORPG..

Certainly, there is Road Wars theres STX kinda like Spyhunter from Wildtangent, theres Roadwar2000. just to name a few. I paid out megabucks cuz i remembered playing Autoduel on C 64 way back. Tips on AADA? Try not shooting it up when on courier tasks, or you Will get tires chopped pretty badly and lose your courier loads, rep., and be more than dead. Walking.

Here ya go : Auto Assault and Roadwars. Very inexpensive and very nice playin games. They are nowadays mmorg s and are 3d adventures. Watch for heavy artillary on towers and building s on Roadwars by WarCry. Godhead does sound good with that. Happy gaming. Ya need a ff steering wheel.

There was a project doing something very similar called "Loose Cannon" by Digital Anvil. AFAIK they got sucked up by Microsnot and it was never completed, but there were some screenies floating around and it looked very nice indeed. They may still be washing around some dark digital sewer. Maybe one day........

BTW I have the original for the Atari (8-bit I think) if I can find the docs I'll happily send some scans

Great game; loved the aspect of being able to build your own car and customize it any way you wanted.

Does anyone actually have this game? I think it's funny that it's protected but you can't buy it anywhere, from anyone. Origin doesn't exist, and Steve Jackson Games is awesome, but they don't sell this game...

anyway, if anyone's selling a used (or new LOL) version of Autoduel, I'm interested...

WHEEEE!

I just saw one on Ebay...even had the little mini toolkit that came with the game...and for a penny no less!!
Anyways, I played this game on my Commodore 64 and LOOOOVED it. Just downloaded it and am having just as much fun as I was in 1986!
If I could code, I would make a modern MMORPG version of this. Would be awesome and has potential to be really in depth with character creation and auto creation. NOT like that crappy Autoassault game from NC Soft.
