Ok, I finally found out : you have to press N when you are at the border.

Dont need to go to the border, just do it while in a boat.

Someone previosuly said that they were having trouble with ghosts. Pretend that the old saying "Playing with fire" is in effect for ghosts. If your using them to take over a castle, watch their numbers. If you ever have to many, stash them in a castle.

Just a hint, if you ever come into combat versus ghosts early on, take them out with shooters ASAP. Definately dont put fodder within their range, if possible. Their movement is 3, so thats a bit difficult.

Here are units that should always be killed first, if you have the chance: Ghosts, Demons.
If you use alot of ranged units, kill Dragons, and other flying units first, and the fast units. If you can take a long time, (like using elven archers) where you shoot for 2 turns, run a few steps, then shoot again, then you will be able to do pretty well.

I made it to 12036 the last game i did, where i wasent being very careful. I ran through deserts quite a bit. I only used ghosts once, when taking out a castle. I had 25 at begining, and had 96 at end of combat.

To beat the game, you usually dont need to go to the last continent. If you do, sucks for you. :wallbash:

(In my opinion)

Obviously, we need to have a box to scan it.

Great game! Played it a lot with my friends while in college.

I've done many nasty things with a horde of cloned Vampires + raise control + timestop. Also finished it with 2 possible high-morale armies (barbs+druids+dwarfs+elves, ogres+giants+orcs+wolfes) as well as regular troops. 1k cavalry charge is fun

Yeah! This rules!

Here's some strategy ideas that i've come up with.

I always give the treasures i find to the local people to raise my leadership. That way, i can recruit more archers, elves or whatever in the beginning. They're efficient in open field confrontations, because they can do damage without absorbing it. Any damage your army absorbs weakens you but also costs you, so if you can do damage without recieving damage, you're basically making profit. (-:

Having said that, it also makes sense that you should only battle when you're way ahead. If your forces are bigger than your oppontent's, you do more damage to him than he does to you. So keep in mind it's cheaper to invest in your troops and _then_ engage an enemy than the other way around.

To finish the game in impossible, look for the easy pieces of the puzzle map. When you're short on time, the puzzle map itself isn't going to be the problem. The real problem is that you've got to compare the puzzle map with 4 continents, so you need to explore. And if you're exploring anyway, you get a lot of easy treasures, hopefully some artifacts, and you'll find places where you can recruit armies. So why not save the confrontations (including the castles) until you've got a kick-behind army?

Take note of which towns sell Town Gate and Castle Gate spells, and buy a bunch of both. You can always use your last Town Gate to go to the town that sells more Town Gate spells. Also, it is possible to get locked up in some places, a spell might be your only way out.

Did you try running any of these three files? Some old games have their sound configuration integrated into the executable.

Wow it works nice and easy on Windows XP. Nice. None of this muck difficult to install stuff that you often get with old games. No need for Dos Box or any of that stuff. Just download, extract, and play.

The game itself is nice enough. I just did a dummy run, and its not too difficult to get started. Just find the king, buy some stuff, and off you go. I don't know about beyond that, but I managed to last for an hour or two in my first go, so that's a pretty good start to a game I've never heard of before. Well done.

Yes, it's true it's easy to get into the game quickly. That's a charm most of newer games don't have anymore (you just can't be good at them right off).

The game is already pre-installed (as are most games on Abandonia) and it is WinXP compatable (although learning how to use DOSBox to play games is really just a matter of a few minutes).

Just a tip if you really want to get way ahead in the game, there are four continents. At first avoid fights, rent a ship, explore and get as much treasure as possible (and maps to other continents). Once you get to the fourth continent you should have enough money to recruit a few dragons. If your army consists of flying creatures only (dragons, vampires...) you can also fly over a continent to explore it (by pressing F and F again to land). Also the dragons will be strong enough to defeat most of the armies on the first two continents and with some reinforcement also on the third - and you can capture most castel that way. This makes the game much easier (and it's not a cheat - just a way around the hard part), although the game really isn't that hard to beat, but it's a lot of fun. The biggest problem will be running out of time if you explore the hard way (by horseback instead of flying).
