I find it odd that so many of my fellow gamers think you need games with insane polygon counts, 3D sound, and all sorts of fancy FX to have a title that will really scare you. As if total realism were all that mattered!

AITD scared the living daylights out of me:
-In the very first room. (Hey, what's at the window?!)
-When walking down the hallway with the enchanted pictures.
-While perusing the library. (THAT ain't no librarian...!)
-In the room with the fireplace and ghost in a chair. I learned the hard way that the funny see-through people Should Not Be Disturbed. Had to stop playing after the resulting chase, I was so badly frightened.
-After opening the front door too soon. (what the heck was that anyhow?!)

And those are just some of the highlights!

AITD will always be one of my favorite horror games for the atmosphere and logic puzzles; keeping you looking over your shoulder for yet another Horrible Thing while trying to figure out how to escape a mansion infested with all kinds of lethal traps.

wait, i figured out how to open it but, two problems:

-1, does it have to be in french?
-and 2, when i click "jeu", it says "This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose ""close"" to terminate the application." and the only option is to click close, and thus, obviously, close the program.

1: Only the configuration is in french, the game itself is in english.
2: Use Dosbox and a beginners guide to Dosbox.

Oh dang, this game is scarey! I'm so glad I got it(aand that it's T rated)!

When I died the first time, I was all like "Wait, is he REALLY doing that?!?!"

I've yet to get past the first few rooms

EDIT: Aw man, I love the fact that some of the manual is french, talking about "louer le CD" and all that

Cool

This is the first survival-horror game I've ever finished and also the best one I've ever played! Okay so the controls are cumbersome and the camera angles are annoying (although I suspect this was done on purpose to add a degree of difficulty to the game,) but it's definately worth a download. I would recommend playing it with a walkthrough though, some of the puzzles are really abstract; like the indian cover/painting/bow and arrow one. Contrary to popular opinion, YOU CAN KILL THE GHOSTS IN THE BALLROOM! (when you do they turn into lght brown smoke instead of coloured disks, and vanish. I'll tell you how to do it if anyone's interested...
