Hey,

I bought this game back in the day when I was just a kid, but I still dust it off every few years to replay because it's uniqueness is undeniable and I've always been into marine archaeology. Anyway, I have coordinates for like 90% of the game's wrecks if anyone wants me to share!

My preferred method of playing is to first find a few super loaded wrecks like the N.S. de la Maravilla in the Bahamas and the San Jose off Columbia... usually those 2 alone give me enough money to buy a Sea Rogue right away and from there it's easy sailing if you buy cargo extensions because you can dive multiple wrecks and keep the cargo bay open without having to go to port after every dive.

One thing that always bothered me (and who would have thought 15 years later I'd finally figure it out) was finding the Titanic. I had the coordinates, but it would never show up on a search, even when I took the Sea Rogue as deep as possible thinking maybe that had something to do with it. But still nothing. Then, after a certain point in the game you get a message intercepted from Evil Eddy that he's at the site and is going to plunder it. Now I used to go there and get into a combat situation with him and usually he would fall off the radar and I would elect to disengage and then it would say I failed to protect the wreck and lost all my contracts. But just yesterday the same thing happened and this time I made sure not to lose him and fired 2 torpedos and one of them finally hit him and after that I was able to find the wreck on my sonar! I sent in the probe, but unfortunately there's no artifacts in the wreck because it's protected as a historical site. Still... if anyone had that problem, there's your answer!

Here's a few of the best wrecks in terms of wealth, uniqueness, or unique items:

N.S. de la Concepcion - Bahamas (except the wreck site in the game is actually way out by the BVI)
N.S. de la Maravilla - Bahamas
El Rubi Segundo - Florida
N.S. de Atocha - Florida
N.S. del Juncal - Mexico
De Todos los Dias & San Jose - Columbia (San Jose I think is the richest wreck in the game)
Hunley
S.S. Central America
Buena Vista
Tobermory Galleon
Girona
Carmelan
Mary
Telemaque
La Lutine
some of the Vigo Bay wrecks
Las Cinque Chagas

And of course the modern wrecks are cool, but they get repetitive after a while

If anyone wants coordinates let me know! Hopefully they are the same in every game?

I would like a few to help me start out. I had this game since I was a kid and beat it over and over. I like to just start out rich sometimes. Unfortuately, I often lose my coordinates after not playing for a few years.

can someone explain how combat actually works please? - unless you have the sub (I don't yet) you get about 5 lines for the RV or trawler - they dont make sense - dont describe what you see on the screen - are contradictory - and in short - dont work.

sometimes I can see my attackers and shoot back - sometimes I can't and I'm just left sitting there getting shot up - right now I'm under attack by about 3 vessels at once - they are only visible on radar, and my guns cannot see them - let alone target them - but their combat skills are lacking too - I've left them to attack me without fighting back or even moving for about 2 hours and the red things they are shooting at me seem to miss almost every time - what's going on? - it wont even let me make a run for it!! surely the combat screens shouldn't be so boring - something should happen

If a ship is shadowing you and you get into a fight you can use the machine guns. Try to position your ship broadsides against theirs and then go to the gun sight to line your gun up with the middle of the enemy ship.

If you are still on a boat and not a sub and you try to sneak into an Evil Eddy wreck site and you get caught they will use subs to attack you. That means you can either aim your ship away from them and run and wait for probably an hour or just reload your last save because you have NO chance of winning.

I have a few questions:

1. Did you find that not all cannons hoisted up to the ship appear as cargo? Does this depend on any skills of the crew?

2. Has anyone found a musket? I routinely find chests and cannon, but rarely other items. Is it the case that unless a ship's manifest says "muskets", it won't have any?

3. What's the highest amount of money you've recovered from a ship? For me, it's about $100 million, but a competitor got more than $2 billion once.

BTW, I always do archeological digs.
[/b]
1. Iron cannons are worthless and you generally just trash them automatically. If you actually bring one up you won't be able to sell it and you better drop it somewhere. I know in real life you would probably be able to donate them to a museum but this is not the case. The only ones worth anything are Bronze and they are never worth more than 1 million.

2. I have found muskets. They do only appear on ships with muskets in the cargo manifest. Muskets really aren't all that great and they usually only worth around a quarter million.

3. I think i got around a total of a billion but i am just starting playing again after a few years. I only do archeological digs whenthere are tons of jewelry at the bottom. I almost always vaccuum.

Combat with the sub is different. You basically should just gun your engines and point yourselfs away from the other ships and torpedos and keep yourselves away while going to the F2 screen and loading your torpedos. It should take a few minutes to load them and you select a target by using the T button or just clicking on one. Try to fire at an angle where your torpedos won't get intercepted by the enemies torpedos. I actually like to run while my torps are being loaded and when it is time to fire to turn around and charge the enemies and fire when i am almost on top of them.

I did the last three posts so if anybody wants to email me or reply to me with questions or Coordinates I will respond.

I've won the bidding for Sea Rogue game off ebay today, i do have a copy but it lacked the floppy discs. I can't remember where i left the manual, as i jotted down the co-ordinates like 90% of the ships!!. I would like the co-ords of the San Jose wreck if you have it, just to get the Sea Rogue craft quicker!.

Oh titanic, i did in the end defeated Evil Eddie, and set the probe into the wreck, but nothing major of value found, apart from the British Govt commission.

I look forward to my copy of Sea Rogue this week, for some reason the download of that game does not work on my XP, or even on older Win95 pc, so i'm guessing i need to install the game first anyway.

I created this "Wreck Identification" file to help with identifying wrecks until you can afford the Wreck Identification computer thing which auto-identifies them. It helps to maximize your profits with a correct identification. Plus it's a lost faster to download for people still on dialup. LOL.

I used the info from the .pdf manual, and some of the words looked a bit smudged so there might be some typos, if you encounter any errors, please inform me so I can fix them. Thanks.

(I've included a .txt and .doc version, depends what you prefer I guess)

Wreck Identification (txt)

Wreck Identification (doc)

This is a formatted PDF version of your guide in 20 pages 2 cols.

Cool game...

...except there's a glitch... if you find more than 4 "artifacts", it won't let appraise more than 3... even after you've sold the first 3.

I don't believe that's what's going on. If you do the vacuum method on your second dive, instead of the painstaking method that requires you to send people down each time, there's a chance your artifact/sword/what have you will be damaged, and you can't appraise it.

I've appraised more than four items from a wreck, and haven't been able to appraise the second of two. It all depended on the method I used to get the item.
