Depack chopra (a self help guru you may have seen on Oprah)says that in order to quit a habit, cold turkey is not necessary. But the next time you light up, be very conscous of everything you do. Constantly ask your self how you feel, what are you getting from every puff and don't let yourself stray from the experience. Don't beat yourself up cause that just gives you stress and causes you to want to give in more feeding the endless cycle of the addiction.. The real trick is to replace your habit with a better one. like everytime you feel the urge, go for a walk, or run off some multiplications in your head or whatever you want. just get it off your mind. its like you know when you try not to think of something, the harder you try the harder it is to not think of it...for example i want everyone reading this to not think of the word I'm about to write. Elephant. I hope you aren't thinking of an elephant as you read this, standing in a pool of water eatting peanuts. instead tell your self "not thinking of an elephant is really not important. Another thing i read once(self hypnosis) went to great lengths describing a study room. Very comfortable and relaxing, except occasionally the phone across the room would ring. and the guy talking would say its ok, you don't hav to answer the phone...the phone can wait. In other words you are not a slave to your environment or to your urges, you just have to try your hardest not to give in, and if you do, examine closley your sences. hope this blather display of trivial guru talk helps ya out a bit.

Aaah...omg. Didn't you say you were married? I can't remember. In any case, think about the one you love. How does your second-hand smoke affect her? What does she think of the tobacco smell which starts to sink into your body?
The key to breaking the addiction is to think about something other than YOU and the pleasure YOU are feeling. Imagine the discomfort of others. After getting over that ridge, take the cigar you are undoubtedly smoking at this very moment. Take it from your mouth. Thats right...remove it! Look at it closely. Is this little burning paper stick going to crush you and make you obediant? Of course not! You are stronger than that! Stare hardly at the cigarette, imagine how small and petty it is, and visualize it. Why do you need it? You will forget it after a while. Think about what it is doing inside your body. Sinking into your lungs, destroying the membranes. Causing mouth cancer, lung cancer. Take it...stare at it....and throw it away. Just like that. And resolve never to have one ever again. And an hour from now, when you are thinking "eh, I think I'll just have one more...." remember what you read here. And don't have it. And a couple days from now, when you feel like crap and your sweating and the addiction is killing you, remember what you read here. Remember what you resolved. And find the power within yourself to break through. It doesn't matter. That little stick won't kill me. I can break through this addiction.

Hope it helps!

Standalone Post
(of Standalone Poster :tai: )

I think the best way to quit is to say Good Bye to all the Good thinks, that
smoking gives you: Relaxation, Satisfaction, Quitness, Hideout, Comtemplatativeness,
sth more ???

That should make you sad, cause you loose sth.

But you say Good bye cause of the bad thinks: Bad Health, Bad Buy(costs),
the addiction and...stuff

So if you find the Good things in your own, you could have the good things,
without the bad things, and this makes you a better person, actually.

So wanting to be better should help.

Most Mistake(In my Opinion): The Wanting to loose sth bad.
This kind of bad is associateed in cigarettes bye the thinker, So if you thing
of the cigarrettes, which you dou, you think about bad things and that you did
bad things. And this weakens your Good Will to stop smoking.

Ive tried this nominee effectually....for a couple of hours now :help: :karate: issed:

:smoke: aaaahhhhhh...maybe next time I ll manage it

Bye :bye: Bye

Yeah, going on that VP was saying....If you start smoking again, you will be insulting us because it will be like you don't respect our advice, or take it seriously. So if you don't want to offend us....stop smoking!

Well that's not a very useful answer Indignus. I'm also pretty sure that if it needs doing he wouldn't write something so incredibly offensive that we'd all cry.

I say - if the urge takes you, do it.

You'll only be sad when you see your family/friends/strangers do it. It would be good if we could all stop our habits, I wish I could stop playing PC games, but I can't. I'd just be sat with it in front of me being very, very sad without doing it.

Oh well. We all have our vices. I say - keep them.
