No, the Dynamic core mode does not have anything to do with in-game controls.
Read this. Dynamic core mode means changing core setting in dosbox.conf to dynamic.

You can only figure the limit by trial and error as it is different for every computer and game.
Increase the cycles until you get a smooth gameplay. If you set them too high, the game will begin slowing down rather then sppeding up.

Yay it worked! Had to up the cycles a little bit, but it worked, thanks a lot.

Unsure if anyone else has mentioned this, but I've managed to get the game running in Windows XP SP2, at full speed, with full graphics and sound.

First, I had to replace the Ddraw.dll file with a more recent version. The version the game comes with is from 1995, with a file size of 111 kb. The one I replaced it with was from 2004, and had a file size of 260 kb.

The error message - the exact error escapes me at the moment - had an issue with Direct Draw. That is how I managed to start the game in windows. (Use _start.exe, not start.exe) To get sound working, you have to edit your autoexec.bat file. Typically found in your root directory. If it's not there, make it. Simply add the "SET BLASTER" command, with your proper IRQ and DMA settings.

(Ex: SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H5 T6)

There, now reboot, and you should be able to run the game in windows! Now, I'm not sure if this will work for everyone, but it worked for me.
