all of the groups in the warez "scene" encourage you to buy the software/game in question if you like it after you have downloaded it. if its not possible to get hold of it at all because of your personal situation or your countries situation then i think that you should be able to download it. i download warez, just i don't do it for the hell of it, i want to try the software and buy it when possible if i like it. its not as if i'd want to buy hl2 and then find out it doesn't work on my computer now, i'd want to find out if it actually works on my computer etc before i even think about putting the money into the developers/publishers purses. (hl2 was an example, but this applies to games/software in general)

I agree with JJXB, when I download a game I do it to evaluate the game before I buy it, the demos for games are a poor representation of the full game (only having the best parts of a game in them). If I find a game i downloaded to be crap then I delete it.

i got Enter the matrix on pc when it first came out, now i regret it because ETM was such a rush job (i didn't have the net at that time) if i had the net at the time i would have got a warezed version so i didn't waste my money at the time

I may sound completly against Warez because I defend the board interest, but in fact I could not care less. Downloading Warez is everyone choice, if you can live with your guilt then I guess it's no problem for you.

I myself got a lot of very bad experiences with the last few "new" games I bought (especially MOO3 and CIV III Complete), so if I am to buy a game I usually buy PC game magazine and read a lot of reviews or "borrow" the game from a friend. Then, and only then, if I find the game interesting and worthy of my time I usually buy the game to support the company which made it.

Unfortunatly, sometimes it end up being a very deep deception (like CIV III Complete). And I've begin to think that the big majority of all the new recent games are not worth playing and unoriginal, and this doesn't help either. I have tryied to hide this fact to myself for a long time now, but as time pass the feeling only grow bigger and bigger.

I think the "golden age" of computer games is past now and since a while too. And it may be past for games in general too.

They do it only for justifying their work. Should they become caught, they at least have some, even if weak, argument to protect themselves.

I admire your ethics, but that means that I would buy errm 2-3 games/year...
Yep. I'm lucky if i even buy that. Which means I'm very selective about what I buy! It doesn't bother me - there's more to life than games! :w00t:

Like i said the golden age for games was between 1990 and 1998.Then 3d graphics came and ruined everything. It took a while for the 3d graphics to get polished, and now they'r getting more and more beautiful. It still hasn't reached the beautifulness(is this a word?!) of the DOS games, but in a few years i think another golden age(3d) will be coming.

lets not forget there is a difference between having some software you didnt pay for, and illegal software you SELL (like on ebay, people selling copied games, or selling cd/dvd with free emulators with roms)
