![]() Hi guys,
I'm wondering about a "legal issue" about abandonware games. I'd like to organize a sort of contest during the summer fest of my home town. I was thinking about a tournament of various abandonware games, played on a PC in the place of the fest, with some prizes for the best results. Do you think this could be considered violation of the abandonware policy? Games would not be used for strict commercial purpose, but of course we (the team behind the fest) gain some promotion from the tournament, and we sell beer... |

![]() I wouldn't worry myself. I don't think the companies are stalking in search of someone to sue him, if you don't distribute protected games, nay massively distribute them, they won't ever take notice or get interested even if they came to know.

![]() Of course I'm not afraid about ESA stopping a beer fest of a little town nobody knows except its citizens... anyway I'd like to respect the abandonware philosophy and maybe also supporting it with some kind of introduction to the games...

![]() What about underground contest, with flyer invitation and cool passwords. Sneaky, dark business.

![]() I'd say your beerfest is well within abandonware philosophy as I understand it:
1) Preserving and showcasing old abandoned games, and 2) That there can't be a crime if there's no victim. By the way, what with the sudden VIP status? Is something new cooking in Abandonia's board? :w00t:

![]() Me thinks it would be much cooler if It would be illegal.
Think about it: Hundreds of master players hold a huge meeting and just when everyone is having fun, FBI bust's in and the cool escape the FBI game can start! |
