Here I am. Someone called me by any chance?
Anyway, it's many years since I last played The Elder Scrolls - Arena, so I've forgotten many details about this game and am more familiar with Daggerfall (and Morrowind, but that's a rather different engine and game). However as far as I remember, Daggerfall is not that much different from Arena, only the former has more spell effects, metal kinds, different monsters etc., so...
Yoga, why don't you simply create a spellcaster character (one of the pre-made classes like Spellsword or Battlemage), join the Mages Guild, work your way up through quests (they already had member ranks for Mages Guild in Arena, didn't they?) and simply create a custom spell with the Passwall spell effect? Or maybe even better, with Water Breathing spell effect (should be there already in Arena), then train your magic skills a bit so the spell costs less, and pass this river point without any troubles. Or more or less like that depending on what Arena actually allows to.

That weird problem where you drown in the river might be simply you running out of stamina due to swimming too long, so when you have 0 (zero) stamina you collapse and are assumed to be an easy prey for monsters to eat you, hence this might be why you die. Maybe some potion or spell which replenishes your stamina back could help? If not the empty stamina is the problem, then I can only assume that there's some strange clipping (falling / going through solid objects like walls) bug at the spot in the river where you drown all the time. In such a case, you might try using some trainer (god mode aka invincible) or savegame editor (position changing) to move your character further up the river to where you need to.

Additionally said, it was widely known back in the 90s where Dos game were still active and running, that The Elder Scrolls - Arena would be hard to play without a magically skilled character like a Magician. It could be finished with a simple Thief or Warrior class, but it would be very hard, unlike for a spellcaster.

Oh, my GOD at last hears my pleas and.....good Master appeared again...
These are first clever advises I received till play this game.
Thank You Scatty. YOU very kind.
OK.
Let tell some details:
I finished very easy Daggerfall. Arena is not more different that Daggerfall.
- Practically for me the game is not so hard as for example Dungeon Master or saga IWD. I really enjoyed when with some fast strokes killed the poor Orcs, Gnouls and cetera. For now only Ice Golem is bad opponent but I fast lurk aside when it meet me.
I started as Thief in my first attempt and had no problem to play Arena. Now I am Knight and the situation is the same.
Sadly I am not Spell maker in both cases.

No, No stamina is not the problem. I started back road fully rested and I very carefully watch the red, middle column with Stamina.
Well, I will follow the Scatty advise to start with some pre-made classes like Spellsword or Battlemage), join the Mages Guild, work your way up through quests.) I remember this way from Daggerfall when I was member of Magics Guild and reached high rank -If I not wrong I managed about 40 spells. I use the spells Levitation and Invisible very often.

Cool.

I start again.
Ha ha ha
this is my 4-th attempt.
Xeen - 6-7 attempts. Done.
Pagan - 5-6 attempts, no result.
Never forgot the moment when the brave moved in invincible ball through lava river. Fantastic. Or Chinese riddle.

Hy, pogodi Boss!!

I started again Arena.
Now I am Spellsword, 3-th level,
I have spell book with first 2 spells - Fire dart and Light Heal.
Comparing with Thief and Knight I am not so strong warrior but this is compensated with more spell casting abilities.
Still in Dungeon but very soon I will be out.
Still accumulate XP and like.

But I have to work more on spell preparing because this is let say a new sphere of activity.
In Daggerfalll I simply bought the spell wanted.
twillight, what about these spells? Do You know it?

Dear and kind Scatty, would be so kind to share with me your memories about Morrowind. Your evaluations?
Thanks.

Well, I've never actually played any Elder Scrolls game, but I can read, and the descriptions of the game says it is actually an independent lenght game, what means you should buy what you ike, and if you don't like it, just go and grind in some random quests for other spells.

And no, here we only had some half cm snow at Dec.22.

But some good news: I've reached in MY game the Act called "the Brood" / "Die Brut" (or how I backtranslate from hungarian: The Species). It starts to be damn hard (but at least I have 2 Colonels already!), but at least I've translated all ingame documents this time (there are lots of 'em)!

Talking Hurray! I have the spell PASSWALL

Yes, I have this spell already! How?
Very easy - simply visit Mages Guild and for 1200 golds I bought it.
Ha ha ha
I plan to use this spell in desperate situation - it just vaporize 3 layers of stones.
Now i am prepared to enter Fang liar.

@twillight - 1/2 cm snow only? Here - min. 20 cms snow.
Hey, Mage, your game is Civilization like? Build town or colony with all activities inside and when ready attack surround enemy colony? Master of Magics?
Why do YOU translate these docs? This is official work for AB or game requirement? Do You play in some thread here or not?
I am surprised that You, so great Mage, never played TES? Have to.

OFF
My countryman from Manchester United Dimitar Berbatov again made hattrick (3 goals per match) against Wigan Athletic.

Rodger that, dear DarthHelmet86.

Yes, we know the rules but some times -Y'now that monotone - Where is the ring? Who is the boss? - boring me.
Very, very, very little of off topic bring this fresh air of our conversations.
Moreover only one day of the year is Christmas day.

OK, no more off topic, I swear.
......................
So, the brave just finished the quest 2 and prepared for next one.
Please pay attention of my picture of my present condition.

Morrowind has great (for it's time) graphics and very interesting and detailed world, which is more interesting to explore than in Daggerfall. However mages are much weaker in this game (without mods), spellcasting is not very strong unlike in Daggerfall. Being a vampire sucks a lot, unlike in Daggerfall where you're a god being one. Sorry for off-topic, last one here.

Making custom spells has the same benefit in Arena as in Daggerfall - you can tailor them to your needs and as as result they can cost less and bring more, if you create them strategically. For example, the same Water Breathing spell (or whatever it's called in Arena) vs. custom spell with Water Breathing effect - with custom spell you can lower the duration for quickly passing some swimming-necessary areas, after which it expires. No need for it to last all that long as the pre-made spell does, right? As a result, it costs less mana, or magic stamina or whatever, which can bring you more benefit.
So it takes some thinking and time creating custom spells, but can be worth it. Buying pre-made spells is easy and fast - buy and fire away. If you like more control over what you're casting, go custom

Kindly thank You for above info and your time.
Here are my spells which I simply bought from Mages Guild:
1. Fire dart
2. Heal
3. Invisibility
4. Levitate
5. Light heal
6. Orc strength
7. Resist cold
8. Wizard fire
9. Passwall

I need one special custom-made spell to keep my back save from attack behind me.
But... my laziness is not small problem.
A little problem is NO music and sound even I did correctly all settings. But I am using headphones and I have great MP3 collection.
I am entering now The Labyrinthia - the 3-th quest.
