Can someone please explain (in Idiot-Speak) how to make this game work in DOS Box. I've no idea what I need to type.

Yes, I read the DOS Box Read-me.

No, it didn't help.

ok guys another tips for you.

first yu have to know that the loading phase of tfx.exe with the dos box can be accelerate with this function:
ctrl+F12

more astounding this function can be use for all games compatible with the dosbox!

so try to accelerate the loading phase with this solution.

second:
personnally i use dosbox such an drag and drop application.
for example i drag TFX.exe on the DOSBOX.exe and tow windows appears.
one with the game screen (wich can be fullscreened with the ALT-TAB function)
the others indicate how dosbox reacte with the game or application. So try to read this windows, for TFX for exempla its firts tell me that some files (such as tfx.$$$ are in read only mode...) so with those informations you can try to solve yourself the problem or ask for more explication here!

I m not a crack, but it's a long time that i try to run old games, and for this hobby you really need to be patient and imaginative...
k:

but on thing is clear, on the abandonia site only a very, very few games are hard to make run, because of the great job of the webmasters and also the dosbox!

good luck all!

I am also having problem running this game

I have followed the above instructions, but I am still having problems.

So far I have done the following,

1. Remove read-only from all files in the /tfx folder.
2. Ran an auto config from the setup menu.
3. Ran start.exe

It shows up with Loading....

I wait for around 1 minute.

Then it appears with a "no parser file specified" error and returns to the C prompt.

Anyone else having this problem ? Or is there any advice ?

Thanks for your help !

The flightsim I've played most! Great graphics, great music and the first game for which I read the entire manual. Yeah, I've got the original cd.

Don't forget to download the 3 patches from www.patches-scrolls.de (unless this is the patched version. It adds a fine dose of realism and removes annoying bugs. Allthough, with the patch you no longer have unlimited ammo for your cannon.

And another thing, I never got past training-mission 7. I just don't know what to do. But you can get past that by closing the enrollmentscreen with CTRL-Enter instead of just Enter. I know, it's cheating, but hey, mission 7 sucks. (But with the patch you only have to complete training once, without the patch you have to complete training with every pilot you enroll)

EDIT: If the screenshots are made by the reviewer and he used this version you can download here it seems to be patched already, but perhaps some of the mods can affirm that?

try to run it with TFX.BAT with the dosbox, START.EXE didn't work also with me...

WHen you launch the dosbox session with the drag and drop functions (drag TFX.BAT on the dosbox.exe) to accelerate the loading you have to press CTRL+F12 to run the dosbox faster...
if it's too fast during the game press CTRL+F11

if you want fullscreenmode press alt+ENTER
if you want to return to windowed mode press alt+TAB.

good flight!

PS can you just tell me if this solution issue your problem...

I changed every file from read-only, and ran the configuration file. When I drag and drop TFX.BAT into dos-box nothing happens though.

When I type the thing in manually (ie; C:\TFX\TFX.BAT) it tells me that start is an illegal command.

When I use START.EXE instead, it tells me there was a spawn error.

Any suggestions?

I was having the same problem - using Start.BAT was getting me nowhere. I tried using TFX.BAT and it worked. By the way, I use D-Fend v2 and run DOSBox v 0.62. After I ran the config file, I pointed D-Fend's shortcut to TFX.BAT. Worked like a charm. (Thanks to whoever posted that solution!)
