In Russia some people, who have house in a village in the country, goes there for recreation. Also some people every year in May plant potatoes, to harvest them in September. I was just curious, does people in your country do so?

Well. Here in Croatia some people have weekend cottages ashore some in villages. Those from the first group are occasional fishermen, but rarely. Those who have houses in villages plant different vegetables, mostly for recreation. Most often they plant tomatoes, cucumbers...., and those more ambitious plant aubergines, courgettes....
So, it's pretty the same here.

And there's the third type, they have cottages in the country and they plant grapes, and then they make good wine from it.

Over here people are very proud if they have their grapevines, so they can have their own wine (even if only small amounts - 80-500 liters). But it's a status symbol, to be able to offer somebody your very own vine. Otherwise mostly people who live in apartments (but moved into them from houses) want to have some garden or something and they plant letuce, tomatoes, beans... It's for their own use, not for selling it, but they would probably be quite lost without it.

For potatoes they may only try with early sorts of potatoes (those you plant in late autumn and are ready in mid-spring). Otherwise only those who have enough land to then go and sell potatoes at the market are growing them.

Anyway, do those poeple in Russia also make their own vodka then?

Is your question about the recreationists in the country or about the agriculture in the country?

People in Belgium used to grow their own vegetables a lot, but that stopped after Chernobyl when the government ordered all those vegetables to be destroyed.

And in London it is futile to grow vegetables, as the underground-dwelling Grumkins would just steal it, and it is forbidden to support, shelter or feed Grumkins.

Isn't it incredible that this matter is more regulated under the EU than under the Communist regime? :blink: LOL

Here in Spain it's either recreational (especially horticulture) or small business (esp. wine).

The government is hoping that - by restricting their diet to rats - they'll all die sooner or later. However, they can also crawl to the surface by digging upwards, and so they steal fruit and vegetables, hence it has become illegal to grow fruit and vegetables in the soil.
