I've actually discussed the ISO situation with Kosta recently. If all goes well with our new partner-deal, we hope that we will be able to host a couple of full ISO's on Abandonia. And then more with time.

But as Titan says, we need to think of those users who have small modems. The most userfriendly solution would be to host both an ISO, and a rip - and let the user decide which to download.

I think I went to HOTU for like 10 games and found 1 working one. And by working, I mean either in DOSBox or my dedicated DOS computer. What good is a talkie version when the game doesn't even work?

eh, HOTU is an odd duck.

They have a large assortment of games, to be sure, but they also tend to...bend....the ESA on some occasions, the majority of their reviews aren't really their reviews at all, more like a mish-mash of what other people have said, in some cases they just copy and paste parts...but at least they give proper admission when they do..well for the most part.

I have had problems with some of their titles not working, but i'm also stupid when it comes to DOSBOX sometimes, others that i KNOW will work for my OS simply won't or have been hacked to death so it'll take up less space.

This is one of my main beefs...now i understand that space needs to be saved, but when the parts you want to see most is taken out, it takes away from the game as a whole...it's like getting Fallout without any of the movies...no thank you, but i guess it's pointless to complain when it's free

The forums are really a mess, it's like the admins. decided since they can't beat them they might as well join em...personally i think it needs a complete overhaul, but that's just me.

The popups are annoying, but in this day and age it's hardly suprising that they have them there.

Like i said before, Abandonia feels like home, and i much perfer it here than over there.

Whenever I go on HOTU I feel like it was a pure Spyware site.
When I was new to abandonware I always doubted it to be a serious site...

^No lie. HOTU and UHS were the two sites where I regularly met amaena, errorsafe/winfix and loads on loads of pop-ups. But now that I got a couple of blockers on my FF, it seems those issues are gone, for now.

HOTU was the site that got me into abandonware.. it was the first site of this kind that I discovered.

Pros: Tons of games, Mostly working (in my experience anyway :P)

Cons: The site is really slow, lots of popups, it's not been updated in ages I think, never really looked at the forum so I can't comment on that, one download at a time, site layout is really kinda messy, I think it's kinda fallen into disrepair a bit.


I found Abandonia when I was looking for Ultima 7, and I'm still here, so I guess it's obvious what site I prefer :P

Pros: Lots of games, good reviews, great community, constantly getting updated, really nice site layout, fast

Cons: Well... There's less games than HOTU. That's about it..


I signed up on the forum here with the intention of helping out and donating stuff to the site, but I never really got round to it. I'll need to dig out my old games and see if there's any games/manuals/box art or whatever that I have that's not up here.

Abandonia wins, 'cause of these reasons -

1.Nice, clean, appealing site layout, without excessive ads
2.No pop-ups
3.Better games and you can rely on all of them to work
4.Friendlier community
5.Better forum layout

HoTU used to be kinda cool, but those days are mostly gone.
