![]() As of 14th March 2006, I'm the latest request maker! So a big hi to you all. I'm really glad that there is such a site as this.
Yes, there is still hope yet! I had been sulking over the loss of my original package of 1942 Pacific War Gold for years. You see, when I was a teenager back then I had saved my hard earned money to buy just one PC game after reading so many reviews that gave the game a big undisputable distinction rating. I remember spending months playing it but unfortunately it got lost together with a check-in baggage ironically after a flight home across the pacific. That was THE sim for me. It started my absolute dedication to and interest in aviation. It was way ahead of its time and it was HUGE - literally. It had the best strategy gaming built-in combining naval and air forces and the in-game world was so expansive and detailed that it was so easy to be totally immersed in the game as if you were a real-life WW2 pilot contributing to the war effort in your choice of either a big way as an admiral ala Nimitz or a fly-by-the seat-of-your-pants ace like the popular TV hero 'Pappy' Boyington. Man, those white streaks across the surface of the ocean marking the torpedos as they hit home were absolutely awesome. Even "dying" while dive-bombing in a bullet-riddled cockpit was breathtaking and nerve wrecking. I hope I'm not glorifying war through my description but the game was undeniably educational in the sense that it actually brings home the message that WAR is bloody and messy and BAD, and you can't hide - even in a YAMATO class leviathan with steel armour inches thick. Please bring this game back. It's a classic that would surely be a hit now as it was back then. It's abandoned and I'm quite surprise that "Abandonia" left this one out. I really believe the game would be a great lesson and an invaluable resource to all future gamemakers. Right, how can we forget FLEET DEFENDER - the second best flightsim of all time! The one that kicked all Maverick wannabes off their ergonomic PC chairs and got them to join the real TOP GUN school. Awesome detail. Awesome music. Simply awesome. Cheers! Wirana Part split off to this post ~Luchsen |
