I think you played a sort of cab (think space-cab from fifth element but fastened to a rail hovertrain-style). I think the track split up at certain points but i dont remember if you could influence the direction. I think you could though.

I think you were using your mouse (or clunky keyboard controls) to move your crosshair trying to shoot things flying around. I played it on an old demo from a pc magazine. You eventually came to a big hovercraft that always managed to kill you. Dont know if this was due to it being a demo or if the game just was hard.
