I'm very surprised ... I own many dozens of games on GOG.com and always supported them when I could. Great company who made an effort to get their games working on modern systems so we could enjoy all those timeless classics. I didn't think they'd ever shut down ...

And they finally added a game that I really wanted, Age of Wonders :\ Well, it was also added to Impulse, so not all is lost.

In my book this is great news, now we can host bunch of games that were available before the GOG, and people can have them for FREE like it should be.

I always supported them as well. I had loads of games with them. Their games always worked in Vista, when I couldn't get them working otherwise.


This is a sad day.


EDIT: The GOG page finally loaded, and I saw the message.
At least they will allow everyone to re-download their games. Hope that comes soon.

Except GOG FIXED games. Good luck fixing those yourself ... Not to mention that they got hold of lots of cool extras that you wouldn't find anywhere as well.

Frodo: on their Twitter they posted a weird message a few days ago, and there was a long message on their site before it buckled under the pressure of visitors. Their facebook page is also covered in people being surprised.

This is a very sad day.

I had high hopes for that little company, and had bought a hell of a lot of games.

Guess I'll be downloading them as quick as I can before their servers are shut for good.

Absolutely gutted.

It was supposed to be the big stand against DRM, and it's failed. What hope now?

What? They didn't even send an e-mail notice about this. Luckily I only bought two games from them, but I'd like to re-download them none the less.

We have recently had to give serious thought to whether we could really keep GOG.com the way it is. We've debated on it for quite some time and, unfortunately, we've decided that GOG.com simply cannot remain in its current form.

We're very grateful for all support we've received from all of you in the past two years. Working on GOG.com was a great adventure for all of us and an unforgettable journey to the past, through the long and wonderful history of PC gaming.

This doesn't mean the idea behind GOG.com is gone forever. We're closing down the service and putting this era behind us as new challenges await.

Someone I know read a suggestion that this might be the end of the beta phase, considering GOG seemed to always been in Beta, and they're now moving to "Real phase". He and I say its very unlikely, however.

EDIT: ...and it turns out we're both incorrect. Apparently, things will go on and this might be a worse case of publicity/marketing stunts.

Seems as TheChosen said, it's a stunt. A particularly poor one at that.

As much as I'd be glad if it's still alive, this sort of thing isn't good for PR at all (although it surely will get a lot of press... is all publicity good publicity?)
