![]() From the small amount I played and what I read it is in way. It reminded me a lot of Ultima - Worlds of Adventure 2 - Martian Dreams.

![]() Man, I LOVED this game. I played it intensely when it originally came out, on my trusty but aging 386 system at the time. I spent days reading the in-depth manual; it was fascinating, almost as intriguing as reading a novel. The world that it described was imaginative and inspiring. Ah, the Grand Adventure. I totally bought into the Victorian era science fiction theme. Liftwood! Ether in space! Delightful. I also liked that I could have females in my party, and I got a kick out of envisioning refined, upper class ladies in their corsets packing pistols and wielding rifles to the detriment of the enemies. Highly detailed, immersive, complex, and entertaining. This was one of those RPGs where I felt compelled to read everything on screen so that I could catch every detail and nuance.
Yes, this was "steampunk" before steampunk became so vogue. I always thought it would have been awesome if someone could have made a movie based on this, or even better, an updated version of the game using modern technology. Imagine what the graphics and gameplay could be like now. I might even go so far as to list this one in my top 10 of all time. Perhaps a little obscure for some and not as well known even back then, but it deserves the attention of any hardcore RPGer. |

![]() Do you need to run a setup first or is it good to go after unzip?
Which exe, com, or bat file are you supposed to use to launch it? There are no less than 9 to pick from. |

![]() That was my guess too, Luchsen. It would be nice to know if it was correct without trying half of them, tho. In case someone here has the installation/launch instructions? It wasn't in the manual anywhere that I could see.

![]() 1889.com is the one to use, and no need to run the setup that I could see.

![]() @ Noomatik, or any who's played through recently;
How about a bit of early game pointers? I played for 30 minutes or so and found the interface really awkward but did get used to it. I didn't leave London though i found all the shops. The main question i have, do you have to find the german and nick the report from him? I found one guy in the museum who was speaking german but not sure if it was the same guy and he had nothing to steal. *shrug* Should a month really pass that quickly? I suppose the easiest way to equip the team is to get the richest character to buy everything and give it to the strongest character, then redistribute it later? I get the feeling you need to reference the manual a lot at the beginning. Anyway, the background sounds awesome, i'd love to see a modern take on this. |
