What I'm thinking is how long until this thread gets closed. My guess - not too long.

There is nothing to like or dislike about it, it's the law.
And I don't think there is any room for discussion about this subject.

What I think is that ESA has been discussed already, and this'll get deleted...

So, laws cannot be disliked? Or even discussed?

discussing this will only set bad blood, a pointless argument about something which cannot be undone.

Laws can be disliked, but what are you going to do? Wallow in hate?

Personally I do feel copyright laws are just and should be respected, I know this is a sensitive issue with abandonware but if it was protected by the ESA, and we are asked to take these games down, we can only comply and respect it.

I have to agree with Stroggy here. Of course you're free to dislike certain laws. But that isn't going to change anything about their status as laws, so you still have to obey them.
Starting to bash the ESA isn't going to get us anywhere. It was their right to withdraw their permission for the games, they did, and that's that.

Edit: Strictly speaking, even the question is badly put: ESA didn't take the games from us, they were theirs to begin with.

while i think its bad that they took such a harsh line with abandonia, who have tried to be ethical with abandonware... its pointless getting angry over ESA - theyre just doing what they exist for. if the manufacturers signed up with, and fund ESA then theyve passed over the responsibility of enforcing the copyrights.
you cant argue with those drones at ESA theyre just pure lawyers and P.R hatchet men. it could be cantalopes theyre dealing with as easily as computer games.

So you're saying novels can't be copyrighted simply because the author didn't invent the language?

LOL and dr_st, you'll get this only warning:

We will NOT tollerate ANY ESA-bashing/flaming/whining AT ALL. Understood?

The Poll will be removed, but the discussion might continue, if it keeps to the track it now has.

Personaly: I think ESA is a good organisation. The ideas are not primairly to piss ppl off and strike at abw-sites, but rather to hunt down large-scale warez-pirates.
It's perfectly sane, and they have every right in the world to do so.

In some ways, they did us a favor. Don't ask, bc we'll not tell anyway.

So.. Any speculations/flaming/bashing/threatening/conspiracy will be dealt with.

Statements WILL be posted when we have something to say.
