![]() Running P4 2.6, 512mb RAM, XP and get this memory error when playing countdown. I have been told that this is due to having more than 128mb of RAM in my machine but I only have 256 and 512 sticks so... does anybody know how to overcome this issue by configuring dosbox or otherwise "tweaking?" Thanks.

![]() Did you try to run the game on DosBox? (I mean the 486/DOS emulator)

![]() Yes, while dosbox does make the game run smoother it still has this particular error. It's a memory allocation error that occurs after the sanctuary escape whenever you get killed. I wonder if it's the download because even when I ran the game on a p2 300 with 64mb of ram it wouldn't run at all. vdm sound won't even get it past the into screen so dos box is the best bet. What I have done is save often and will play the game without sound to get past the areas in question and then quit the game and restart with sound until it crashes again.

![]() Wait. You mean it crashes at certain points when running with sound? When digitized speech is played, I presume?
Check the IRQ and DMA settings in the game's soundcard config. They must match those in DosBox.conf. And the soundcard emulation too, advisable is SBPRO1 or 2 (Sound Blaster Pro). You might also want to reduce the amount of RAM emulated by DosBox, memsize=8 or if that still doesn't work, memsize=4. |

![]() You need to change it in the Dosbox.conf file of DOSBox.

![]() And I think the game has some sort of SETUP, CONFIG or similar executable in its directory. If not, have a look for sound options in the actual game.

![]() Thanks everyone. The config file was hidden which was why I couldn't find it at first...so now I'll see what I can do.

![]() I think it's the download. I brought out a P2 300 mhz 64mb machine which was THE exact computer that I used to play it long ago and it still crashed. I'm going to try one more thing and that is to take the setup file and put it on a floppy and try installing the game just like I would if I had a hard copy instead of clicking the exe. The exe in the bundle has already been unzipped so maybe that's it. If this works then all of us countdown junkies can rejoice...

![]() One more thing I forgot...the P2 machine IS running Windows 95, the sound card and all hardware is the same, completely setup to run as a 1997 machine. The exact same pc through and through....
