I think there's a demo version of Fruity Loops. You dont need to be able to play or score music to compose with loops that you can make yourself or find free around the net. There's also Fruity Tracks which enables you to take your compositons to another level. I can't play piano, but I can write music and I use Sonar to input whole orchestra scores. I use Fruity Loops for professional percussion sounds, not just boring drum sounds, although you can do a complete song using Fruity Loops alone. Another popular loop program is Acid. There's also a demo version available on Acid Planet.
