What do I need to burn mpeg on DVD+R and play it on regular home dvd player?

I can do it if I burn it on CD, but it shows nothing when I burn it to DVD...

I have Nero 6 and Alcohol 120%...

Well, I gave up on this long, long ago, after many hours/days of converting to various formats and various tools.

Then finally, I found Nero 7 to be working for me. The full package had this tool, Nero Vision, I think, which converted it to DVD-Format and then burned it. Had some wrong compression switched on, however, which really messed up the result, and since that, I just watch the movies on my Notebook -_-

So, try Nero 7 (they have a trial version on their page, I belive), if that doesn't work, I don't have the slightest idea how to do it.

You need to convert the file from MPEG to DVD coding... just do a bit of searching and you'll find loads of programs or buy Nero 7... but that's the only way it can be done. But it can be done as I did it with a movie

There are two ways of dealing with that:

1 - As people before me said, you need to convert them and that might not be easy... I tried it before and completely gave up because it takes too much time to convert and there is some loss at the conversion process. And, sometimes my computer crushed at 70 / 80% - just for the record, (I tried several softwares a couple years ago, from TMPGEnc to AVI2DVD - check the URL=http://www.afterdawn.com]http://www.afterdawn.com[/url] forums as they have guides to convert these kind of stuff) a conversion done with TMPGEnc can last about 20 hours with settings for "minimum loss". So you can imagine how annoying that was.

2 - The easiest solution - not the cheapest: I suppose these "mpeg" you refer are "DIVX"... So buy a new DVD player, one that can read DIVX (it will read normal mpeg too) :whistle:

No, they aren't DIVX. Guaranteed. Keep in mind that DIVX != DivX.

Another thing to keep in mind is that not all home DVD players can handle DVD+-R(W)s (sorry, didn't feel like listing them all out). However, just about every non-bargain-basement DVD player can handle VCDs/SVCDs, which are what Nero and TMPGEnc generally output to if you're encoding for a CD.

Another rather trivial thing to make sure of is that your DVD burner actually supports DVD+R, and that you aren't trying to write +R media with a drive that can only write to -R.

Or you can do as me: Get one of 'em new thingys with hard-drive and burner.. Plug it into a TV-out and record :)

I think all DVD burners come with free software that allows you converting any movie file to VCD, SVCD or DVD. Mine came with Power2Go and everything works fine.

There is only the time issue: converting to VCD or SVCD takes about an hour for 700Meg-file, DVD about 2 hours, and my PC is a fast one... :crazy:

On the general issue of converting;
When i convert/compress/resize movies for my phone, a normal 1.5 hr movie takes almost 50-60 mins to reencode, and concider that the output is small.
So, 2 hr's for a movie sounds about right, especially if you'r going from one encoding to another.
