http://www.truthandbeautybombs.com/bb/view...der=asc&start=0 By removing all of Garfields thoughts, the comic turns itself into a surreal little look at Jon's psyche. Odd.

that link does not work.
EDIT: no, wait, now it does again. |
Seems their site just went down. Pity. Was a pretty interesting little study. Judging from the dialog in alot of them, Jon is a psychic, able to read a cats thoughts, but then contradicting himself with lines like "I'd give anything to know what you're thinking" in other comics. Oh what a confusing universe that comic illustrates!

Actually, it doesn't change much at all... in fact most of those Garfield comics work just like they did WITH text.
However, I don't like Garfield all that much anymore since the comics basically degenerated to the ever same "Jon is stupid and miserable and Garfield makes fun of it"-routine... |
I like it this way, myself. Now, as someone said, it's just a sad man talking to his cat. The man is crazy. It becomes an observation fron an outside perspective of a man harrassing his cat, while the animal sits by idly. Garfield is a mute documentor of Jon's spiral into madness. Alot of odd little moments emerge (Jon popping up saying "I was being sarcastic!" before departing once again) and the comic takes an almost surreal turn.
The funniest part is that they actually do work better without Garfields dialogue, towards the intended joke or not. Just goes to show, Jim Davis, you cannot draw cartoons for the life of you. |
That is way too much for my simple mind to comprehend.
I like garfield, didn't like the movie though. |
I love the comic this way, it just shows Jon as such a loser, you really don't need any more dialogue, it's already absurdly funny by just how sad Jon is.

Funny. Kept me from doing my work though, which is less funny, 'cause now I have to work harder

Now that's funny. |

Makes me wonder what people would think of me if my cat didnt speak when I talked to it. |
