Hi I downloaded DOSbox then albion and followed the instructions for Dosbox that were on the site to the letter. I put my albion files in the Cdrive file inside the DO file in C: after I had extracted em and everything
then I went into dosbox and tried to install it (again using the instructions on the site) When I get to inputting the 'install' command it begins to load bup but then tells me I need the cd in the drive. I have done the mounting thing in the Dosbox.conf file so whats up? I use Windows XP also; I tried loading it w/o Dosbox and it crashed the computer :D LOL....so any help at all would be very much appreciated as I hear it is a fantastic game! |
I had the same problem as you at first. I'm not sure how I fixed it, and can't check right now because I'm at uni, but... I think the solution is to put any cd in the drive and it detects it.
I think. |

Use DOSBox. The link I posted up there is an explanation on how to mount a CD-Rom in DOSBox.

I downloaded Albion and installed it on C:\Albion than i started the dosbox and wrote: mount c c:\Albion next i wrote mount d d:\ -t cdrom (but i also tryed the other things with usecd...) than i wrot albion and pressed enter. The dosbox says than: Please insert the Albion cd in your cd-rom drive I hope you can help me because I love albion, its an amazing game but my original cd is scratched and does not work anymore. I was so happy to find albion on your page and would rather walk naked through the cithy than to give up albion ;) so if anybody has any idea, something that could help me, something that im doing wrong, please let me know. If i find out how to make it work, ill post it here of course! Thanks Daniel |
have you tryed this one too?: mount d c:\albion -t cdrom

this one nearly worked, well it worked a little bit. the intro started (or i think that its part of the intro, as its onl one or two seconds), but than dosbox said: an error occured please examine the file error.log thank you for playing albion when i try to open error.log in the windows explorer it says that it cant find the file (but i can see it) and even if i use the windows search whatever and it finds the file and i try to open it it says cant find the file... i also tryed to type "main" instead of "albion" to start the game but with the same mistake as result. typing "albilow" also produces a mistake. trying to type "dos4gw" produces a fatal error without even starting a little bit of the intro or anything. When i type "setup" the setup workes, means i can install the sound and stuff, but i cant start the game from there. When i finally managed to open the error.log file, well here is what it says: **** Error log **** Albion v1.38 (created on Jul 25 1996 12:39:09) Executed on Sun Nov 6 00:50:52 2005 BBERROR: ERRORSTACK START:-------------- BBDOS Library: DOS_setcurrentdir: unknown error - FILENAME: D:\ALBION\ALBION\CD\ALBION - DATA: 0 - OSERROR: 1 Xload: File does not exist. (Name : Slab) Albion: File access error. (line 679 of file g:\albion\src\game.c) BBERROR: ERRORSTACK END----------------- Please read the README.TXT file to find out how to contact the Blue Byte hotline. I realllllllly hope that someone can help me make albion run on my computer because you know, i love this game. Sooooo if anybody knows what the error message means and what i should do to prevent it, please let me know. WEll i reallly hope somebody can help me to find a solution! thanks for your attention ;) daniel |
looks like a mounting problem
try mounting the cdrom differently (e.g mount d c:\albion\albion\cd) |
