Im not sure on how to do it but what if we were able to make Gameplay videos of some games..it doesn't have to be all of them. Im not sure on how to make them though. What do you think?

punch999 15-10-2005 03:39 PM

No it would be to large and besides most of these games are small so why provide videos which will take longer to download then just getting the game and playing your self

Mr.Snuggles 15-10-2005 03:45 PM

Ohhh...never though of that. Watching them on the side could be bad also.

Yeah, because when you're watching it you'll be like. 'Dang! I really wish I was playing this. Must... Play... Now! Can't.. play... video.. too addictive!' Then the viewer commits suicide.

It's not a bad idea.
I have a prog that can capture games playing in Dosbox.
I put it into my video compression thingy that I use, it retains all the quality while making the size much smaller.
Pow, nice quicktime movie.

Only problem is that not everyone has those tools, :bleh: .

Im sure most people can use Quicktime. I mean i use this and I just came up with this: Right next to the screenshot put "Gameplay Video" and make sure you like show what program is needed. You could give a link to the site. Im pretty sure everyone also uses Windows Media Player. (But I use Winamp) The compression could really help out too. So like how is this going to work? Stream it from the site?

well, if we have the bandwidth for it, and if the administrators decide this is something they want to add to the site, they will probably just be uploaded on the games' main site to download. I'm not really sure what the purpose of them would be, except for the strategy games to see the replays of a match or something.

However, a compilation of different scenes from a game put together for a Demo of a game could be an interesting idea, so people can see what the actual game play is like. I have an image in my head of a movie trailer style.

I think RealmusLQ meant not everyone has the tools to make their own gameplay vids :P

The idea is a good one i think, since 95% of the games on this site run in 320x240, and that means you can cram about 15 seconds of gameplay in under 2MB. Hell, you can show lots of things with just 5 seconds, and i agree with the suggestion of using vids as quick previews/demos of gameplay.
The downside is that videos would put more strain on the bandwidth.
