I have received the task of registering and creating a forum from scratch for my Ogame alliance.

I was wondering if anybody else ever tryied to create a forum from scratch. And if so, do someone have a list of good recommended forum sites?

Security is a major issue here and I want to be able to easily create private "hidden" forums from the "normal" users.

Any idea?

why not use Invision Board, like this forum?

Edit: Of course, it does cost money...

What about PHPBB (http://www.phpbb.com/) ? I made quite good experience with those Forums. they are (sort of) easy to maintain and to install ...

I second swiss' opinion.

phpBB is a great free forum. If you need more then a forum (web portal) then go for PHP NUKE, which includes phpbb as module.

To set up one of these you have to have basic unix/windows knowledge and some php. I can help you if you choose any of it.

Where are you planning to host it? (Has to support php and mysql or some other db.

if you need a host, just type 'Free (invision/php) board host' in google and something will come up!

Well, I have absolutly no coding knowledge whatsoever and it must be free too because I don't want to have to pay for it.

All I want is a basic forum which is secure enough to trust and easy to use.

I do realise that I have no idea of what I'm doing... :(

usually with these forums you can just sign up and the forum is created. then you can just use the admin panel to edit it. you can become a genius with the forum workings that way

http://invisionfree.com/ is your friend. If you want an invision board similar to this without the hassle of hosting or anything then this service is great. I use it for my forum (which is pretty dead :P) and its easy to manage etc.
