"1984" is a classic, isn't it? Anyway I've read it and so should anyone who is concerned with (international) politics and the current "War on Terror."

Do you think they could make a decent game out of the book?

PrejudiceSucks 24-06-2005 08:29 PM

Not really, although Deus Ex has hints towards that matter (read the public information board in the staff lounge in UNATCO HQ and see what I mean)

A rather unknown adventuregame was based on this recently "Moment of Silence" it didn't get good reviews, but I liked it.

I remember an old C64 game that had the title 1984 and was said to be based on the book, but... Oh well, as far as I remember it, it was a shoot them up game.

Sacrilege! I don't think it would make a good game actually - it'd have to be incredibly linear to maintain the opressive atmosphere, and I'd rather read the book :D

You know what book (OK, 200AD comic) would make a great game?

Rogue Trooper. It would be great.

I think an awesome game could be made out of the book... maybe not a direct adaptation, but certainly something 1984-esque would be an excellent premise.

You know, if you think about it, 1984 is like the Matrix of our forefathers.

I could be crazy, but I certainly see the similarity.

PrejudiceSucks 24-06-2005 08:57 PM

Hmm - about the Matrix

Most people are like 'OMG TEH COMB4T!' but actually it's like 'OMG TEH R3L1G10U5 0V3RT0|\|35!'

I like the film, but it's a little over-popular now.

Stroggy 24-06-2005 09:00 PM

The matrix isn't that original.
It draws on elements widely discussed in famous books like 1984 and Dune (the Butlerian Jihad)

Actually, there was a Rogue Trooper game for the Commodore 64.

As for a 1984 computer game, it would have to be either an adventure game or a 3D game set in the city of New London (I think that was the name?), Airstrip One (love that alternative name for the United Kingdom).

A shooter would be bad I think. What about something like "Half Life," a sneaker or maybe a fleer (fugitive game: you're on the run and must evade the authorities, thought police and anti-sex league).
